The folks have obtained license only for English and Australian cricketers, which means the names of all cricketers from other nations are misspelt - for instance, Mahendra Dhoni has become Mahata Dhabi.
The gameplay is pretty good - you need to control timing, footwork, and placement very correctly while batting. Similarly, while bowling you can control pace, swing. I like the concept that if you try to bowl too fast, there is a high likelihood of ending with an illegal delivery. The timing comes into play when you are supposed to take catches while fielding. Do the tutorials - they are good!
The concept of confidence level for a batsmen/bowler is very good. For example, if the confidence level is very low (which happens when you are repeatedly beaten), then you need immaculate timing to send a ball to the boundary. On the other hand, if your confidence level is high (which happens you have hit three sixes in a row), you can still hit a six with a slightly-off timing.
There are three levels of difficulty and your timing simply has to be very good to play higher levels of difficulty - otherwise its the same. Because most of us players like to bat more than bowl, we tend to be better batsmen than bowlers, especially in the higher levels.
The graphics and commentary are OK. If you are a cricket crazy guy who just wants to have a good time, you can live with it. If this is the first time you are playing cricket on a video game console, you may find these aspects both silly and funny. It helps that, though I am a casual gamer, I am hardcore cricketer :-)
I tried playing online once, had a good experience - the internet needs to be really good on both sides for this to work. Too sad that my wife is not interested in playing cricket with me :-(
May other commenters have mentioned about a HD-TV and HDMI cable. Don't spend too much on the latter. These days you can find one under 5 dollars - it simply works. Even my HD-TV is an old insignia TV and only 780p compatible.
Batting seems very difficult so trick is :: Just choose shot direction and shot Selection ( X or o ) simultaneously when ball gets close to wickets and you`ll do fine .It took quite a while to figure out as training didn`t teach you this trick.
about the graphics not being up to par of the Madden NFL series, they do match up to Madden (I own
Madden and this game and don't see any difference).
The only cons for this game is that they only have officially licenses for the England and Australia
teams, so the other teams have similar, but not exact names for the players. Also the tutorials can
be quite challenging (they help to learn the basics, but it's easiest just to start playing a game).
The commentary is good, but kind of sparse and gets repetitive.
Also, for those in the USA, this game will work fine for a USA PS3 (most all PS3 games are region-free),
but you must use a HDMI cable for it to display on your HDTV (it won't display on an NTSC, USA TV, if you
are using regular video cables since it's video output is PAL)
The gameplay is very fun and trying to hit 6s and 4s is very fun and bowling and catching are easy
to pick up. Overall, a very fun game for those not familiar cricket, but also for hardcore cricket gamers.
I bought this ps3 game for my son last Christmas (2012) and was unable to use it until I wrote a product review.
Unfortunately, i do not play games and know absolutely nothing about them and my son was 8 so we didn't know we had to use a hdmi cord. I wrote a review stating that the product did not work and got a reply from the sales agent that it only works with the hdmi cord.
I sincerely apologize for that error. This product works excellent. It is my son's favorite game
Thank you very much for all you help and understanding
