Lets you crochet one-of-a-kind bracelets, necklaces, earrings and more using all-purpose thread and a small crochet hook. This title helps you create intricate designs reminiscent of the symmetry of mandalas and mosaics, or the infinite patterns.

If you are brave enough to jump into a style of crochet where that is beginner, then these designs are a fantastic place to start. It appears to be one of the first, if not the first, set of patterns to bring attention to the overlay style of crochet. Just as the name implies you end up laying different crochet stitches over the original base work creating something that looks very advanced. At the sizes in this book, it is a bit advanced, at least for me. I'm not yet comfortable enough with my stitches to go this small so I haven't been able to make anything from the book. I plan on starting much larger than their recommended sizes -- if not standard worsted weight yards then at least some size 10 crochet cotton.
The book does include both written directions and a graph pattern for each piece.
Overall: It uses fairly basic stitches but the recommended materials will have you making small delicate pieces which can be very challenging, so I'd not recommend this for beginners unless they're up for a challenge or aren't afraid to experiment with patterns using materials other than those recommend.
10 projects are included: amulet bags, necklaces, earrings, bracelet. Instructions are very good and are both written out and charted. Each project gives skill level, materials, large color picture plus instructions. Sources are given for the supplies and there is a page, also on inside back cover, giving the abbreviations and symbol key for the charts. The author also says this type of crochet can be used to make larger items with thicker yarns. This is a new type of crochet which the author teaches around the US and she is a very well known and respected jewelry maker. I found the book very impressive and complicated so haven't done anything with it. I think it would be good for someone who likes to crochet with sewing thread and with steel crochet hooks (1.75mm). I'd love to take her class too.
