I bought this item to treat my newly delivered shed. The Cuprinol applied easily and it took about 90 minutes to coat a 10ft x 8ft planed timber shed. As the shed had come with a base preservative it took two coats to achieve a uniform colouring. I estimate I have enough left over to do at least half the shed again.
I applied the Cuprinol by brush and there were some areas where I went over an area I had treated earlier. The following day when I applied the second coat the Cuprinol wouldn't soak into these areas, it "beaded" on the surface. However, when it was dry it looked OK. I asked Cuprinol what caused this and they replied it was the wax contained in the first "two" coats that prevented the "third" coat soaking in. They recommended me to sand down before applying a second coat in future. Sand down a shed? I don't think so! The instructions recommend applying the second coat before the first has dried if possible, if not, within 2/3 days. The second coat I applied the following day soaked in well except for those few areas mentioned.
I think it would be better in future to start at the top and work along two or three planks at a time and maintain a wet edge rather than do a one metre section from top to bottom. I did that and ended up with two sections on the back and front and one section on each end where the first coats had overlapped and this is where the second coat beaded.
I didn't think much of the packaging. As usual the box was far too big for the product and all it had to stop it moving in the box was two short strips of brown paper. The can arrived with a big dent in the side but luckily the lid was still on. Having said that it may well have been dented before being put in the box.
Having said all that I am pleased with how the shed looks.
At the same time the stuff seems to deter wasps from chewing at the wood to make their nests.
I now use the product on every wooden structure I have in my garden, which includes a large shed as well as fencing. I try to recoat after 2-3 years.
Easily applied, dried evenly and quickly.
No smell ,new appearance to now waterproofed shed!
