This valve is nice and heavy duty, the lever turns smoothly, the large orifice doesn't restrict water flow, and when closed it shuts the water off completely. Huh, what do you know about that? A product that actually lives up to my expectations and does exactly what it's supposed to do. I actually prefer that's it's plastic too because it's lighter. The good brass ones, (like the one Dramm makes) are heavy and don't work any better. Ok, yes, it's a little pricey but you know what I hate more then paying a little extra? When I'm in the middle of working on something and a component fails and now I gotta stop what I'm doing and dork around and waste time doing something else. If there's one thing I wish they'd have done different it's the blue shut-off lever. It's really ridiculously long and tall - I suppose you could call this a feature that makes it easy to use when wearing gloves or whatever. Personally, I'd really prefer something less tall, shorter, thinner and streamlined, like a vane with the hole in the center that would drag through the grass easier. Still in all, this is the best valve you can get in my book.
We purchased several of these for our water gardening business to use while out cleaning fish ponds and other water features. This being said, all of our tools are extensively used. Our tools tend to stick around for a long time, or are short lived and end up getting tossed. Having gone through many types of shutoff valves that just weren't made to be put to work, we found these. You'll probably notice right off the bat that the body of the shutoff is much wider and thicker than your standard shutoff. This is great, because it improves flow substantially and adds durability. the handle is seated comfortably into the body, which should prevent it from loosening and snapping over time. Having since used these valves for six months, I can't say that the longevity of these valves is worth the value. Even though the valve is made of high impact plastic, the male threads still have quite the tendency to wear down in a relatively short period of time. We've had issues with pressure nozzles blowing off the end of the valves because the threads have worn down to the point where there is little to thread a nozzle onto. The shutoff handle and ball of the valve is holding up very well, but without a good thread on the male end, the valve is functionally useless. I had high hopes for these valves, but as it turns out, the construction isn't as great as it seems.
