So far I am really happy with my purchase. I was a little concerned in buying this because the description is unclear as to whether this only makes espresso or if it makes coffee too. I can now confirm that this does in fact make coffee (and of course espresso). I just push the double cup button and get about half of a huge coffee mug full of coffee. I drink out of those HUGE starbucks city mugs, so I need to hit the double cup buttom once and then add a single cup to get a full cup of coffee.
The milk frother works great and I use that every day.
The machine is super easy to use and makes AMAZING coffee - adjustable to whatever strength or size you want it.
A feature it does not have that my euro coffee maker did - a clock so that you can tell it to turn on at a certain time. Not having this really does not bother me though, because it only takes a minute to heat.
Also, you can make coffee with coffee grounds rather than beans. I tried this, but with little success. The coffee turned out thin and weak. Honestly, I am guessing that I did something wrong....but I cant figure out how to make a decent coffee with grounds on this machine.
UPDATE AFTER 1 MONTH OF HEAVY USE (approx 6-8 cups of coffee per day): I still really like this machine, BUT have one big gripe. When I use good quality beans that are not dried out, the natural oils of the beans prevent them from sliding into the grinder in the back of the machine. So I have to take the back lid off and push the beans with my hand into the grinder...something I do not think I should have to do with an expensive machine. I do not need to do this if the beans are dried out...but honestly, who wants dry old beans?
ADDITIONAL UPDATE AFTER APPROX 6 MONTHS - This machine is really growing on me. I have found great beans that feed well into the grinder and have had zero problems other than the bean issue. The machine works like a champ and we use it for approx 6-8 cups of coffee every day.
UPDATE AFTER 2 YEARS OF SOLID USE (approx 6-8 cups of coffee + milk frothing every day) - This machine works like a champ. After figuring out the bean issue, this machine is really good. All I do for maintenance is descale the machine when it tells me to - otherwise, this thing is super easy to use, low maintenance and makes amazing quality coffee. Upgrading my rating to 4 stars.
Has been working moderately well. Bean hopper/grinder will not handle Starbucks beans, too oily-sticky.
Last week, began acting up, sprayed ground coffee all around inside and "pucks" were not forming. I cleaned everything thoroughly and attempted to right the machine; nothing worked.
I called Delonghi support Sat, lady was helpful and told me how to do a master reset, [Don't know why it's not in the manual] It seemed to work for two cups of coffee, then failed. Resetting didn't help.
Monday morning I called again and the guy I spoke with said I needed to send it to their service center and it would take about 2 weeks. Obviously, I wasn't happy. But, he said I'd receive in about 1:30 minutes instructions for shipping it to their service center, at my expense of course. Six hours later I called and asked where was my email; the rep said he'd get it out that night. No email!
This morning, at 10am, no email yet. I called again and was told it was sent. We double checked the addr. it was OK. It is near impossible that I didn't receive it, if they had in fact, they sent it. My emails are forwarded to 3 different accounts, My own website, Verizon and Gmail.
Then the rep said they had to actually see the problem using the my cell phone's live imaging. I went thru the routine he requested step-by-step. He agreed the unit appeared to need servicing; but, he had to get their service company to agree. This is weird arrangement when the product company has to ask permission of their service provider. It's now been two hours and no email yet. To add to my aggravation: the rep said the service company would send me a special shipping box and it would take about 3 days, this of course adds to the time we will be without the unit. No matter if I had the original box and shipping outer-box.
If I didn't have $1000 invested in the Delonghi coffee maker; I'd dump it and buy another brand.
