You do need to experiment with the size of buds - the ones fitted were a little large for me and the noise cancelling didn't seem so good at first but the unit comes with a range of sizes to try so you should be able to find some that do the job. However, if you want to cancel out external sounds completely, you're better simply going for a £5 pair of ear-plugs - though in the office that would be more of a statement than I was comfortable making.
For listening to music, I'm not an audiophile, but I'd say they're the best headphones of any type I've used, clicking on the the sound cancelling gives a much more intimate listening experience, allowing me to pick out sounds I thought my ears were no longer sensitive enough to discern - outstanding really. It's hard to recommend them over other brands as I've not tried any for comparison, but I'm very happy with these and they're proving to be useful.
Arrived within a few days, and were in perfect condition.
Well, the noise cancelling is truly outstanding! I had the opportunity to compare them to the Sennheiser's on a long flight and they cut out way more noise. Noise cancellation is both passive (physical block) and active (a reverse phase of the ambient noise is played which comes over as a barely perceptible hiss).
The sound quality is perfectly OK. It's WAY better than the typical buds supplied with an iPod or other MP3 player. However, I expect you could do better for the money if you were to forgo the noise cancelling. A comparison with the Sennheisers would be unfair given the difference in £££.
As someone else mentioned, build quality of isn't top-drawer but has been OK so far. Will update if they break!
In summary - if noise cancellation is important to you then these are great! If sound quality is your top priority and you don't need the noise cancelling then look elsewhere.
The sound is great - but I'm a bad flyer and have had a pair of on the ear noise cancelling headphones which are brilliant, and thought I would get a set of buds. Probably a faulty product (have tried new batteries) so I'll have to return them.
