4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Domke Insert with Timbuk2 messenger bag 8 de noviembre de 2009

I needed a camera insert that would fit inside my medium Timbuk2 messenger bag. This insert fits inside the bag well, leaving a little extra space on the sides to access Timbuk2 interior accessory pockets, as well as space to fit a composition notebook.

The padding is about half and inch thick and appears sufficient for everyday bumps. Inside the insert, I can fit a Nikon D700 with a 50mm prime lens. And if I angle it correctly, a 70-300mm zoom lens. One of the pockets I have to collapse to fit camera and lens, leaving room for a cable or something small. the other two pockets I can fit a zoom lens and an SB-600 flash. This is not a good insert for using anything bigger than a medium zoom lens.

One major problem I found is the lack of padding on the bottom. To me this makes no sense. The worst risk of shock is from the bottom of a bag. Because I climb like a monkey and drop gear occasionally, I cut a piece of a thick exercise mat to the size of the bottom of my timbuk2 bag, and used that as protection.

First, this is a quality product, just like all Domke products. My complaint is not about the quality, but with the appropriateness of it. The listing in Amazon claims it "fits perfectly" in the Domke F-1 "Little Bit Bigger" bag. No so much, IMO. It fits, but poorly from my perspective. It is far too long and not wide enough to fill the bag. It is a space-eater, and no one needs that in a camera bag, especially one being used to transport equipment instead of working out of. I may save it to use in another bag, since it's good at holding a DSLR and a couple of mid-sized lenses. It would be fine for a day bag for a defined shoot - camera, flash, one or two lenses. But, it won't fill the need for which I bought it - to maximize storage in the F-1 bag. In retrospect, this review is more one of the Amazon listing than of the product. Don't buy this to pack your F-1 or F-2 (even worse.) It's a space-hog. But, for what it does, it's a fine insert.

I ordered two of these, imagining that I would easily transfer from my office to my bag(s) with equipment inside and ready to go. Nope.

PRO: They are wide and deep, and sufficient space for at least 4 lenses and a camera body.
CON: Thin padding was disappointing, and worse, the pad (1/4 inch think or less), is not sealed in the unit. All four sides have an open slot where the padding can be taken, or in my case, fall out. If you are going to leave the insert somewhere permanently, this could be a non-issue. But for me, transferring as a complete unit is not going to work well. The divider panels were thin as well.

This will work sufficiently for an organizational tool within the boxy baskets I use to store my gear, but my original intent will need a different solution. I have ordered different inserts before and will go back to those for my needs.

I bought this as an insert for a backpack to not look like I was carrying a bunch of expensive gear. This seemed to be the right choice as most of the other inserts would not accommodate an attached battery grip. This one does. This size is good, the flexibility to move dividers is good, etc. I had a Crumpler insert at twice the price and much better build quality but even the large could not accommodate my A77 with grip.

Where I had an issue is with how it's built. It's made of thin nylon with thin padding that as not actually sewn in. I guess the biggest disappointment is the padding or lack of padding on the bottom. When I set the bag down on the ground, I want to make sure my gear is protected. I am not sure this accomplishes that task.

The above said, it was good enough to buy a second on for my daughter. Just know that you will have to place something in the bottom of whatever you place the insert in.

for the standard 4-section insert that came with my Domke F-1X bag. It stores my Nikon D7000 with 18-2mm lens attached in the large section, a 70-300 telephoto stored vertically in one of two partitions, a 12-24mm wide angle zoom and a 50mm primary lens stacked in the other. On one side of the mounted camera and lens, I store a Hoodman Loupe; the other side has room to fit two Singh-Ray filters in their individual pouches. Lots of room and everything is protected by ample padding. The insert is held in place in the bag by velcro strips on two sides can be removed when I decide to use a different insert.
