Mia Taylor has a huge heart, but just how much pain can one heart endure? Mia was living the picture perfect life, engaged to her high school sweetheart and working at her dream job at an upscale salon in New York City. She had it all. Until the day her past, present and future were taken away, leaving her to face the world scared and alone. Trying to pick up the pieces of her broken life, while mourning the devastating loss of her fiancé she just goes through the motions as an empty shell. Enter Travis Montgomery, Olympic swimmer and totally gorgeous. He has several medals under his belt and just as many women. Mia is well aware of his womanizing reputation and refuses to be his next conquest, but finds herself coming alive again whenever she’s around him. They agree to be “just friends,” quickly finding that they are unable to fight the attraction between them. Mia’s life becomes complete once again with Travis in it; but nothing good lasts forever, at least not in Mia’s world. Torn apart by an ugly secret, Mia’s heart is broken once again. When the unthinkable happens and Travis needs Mia the most, she must reach deep inside to find forgiveness for the one man who will always hold the key to her shattered heart. But will doing so only break it further; this time beyond repair?

That being said, I have to say that the secret Travis withheld from Mia wasn't anything major for her to break it off with him. If she just sat for a moment and thought about it she'd maybe come to realize that her being chosen was really a compliment to who she is, and with time this is why Travis fell in love with her. Except for the repetitive "I love you" thrown back and forth between the two a thousand times, it seems our protagonists would rather jump to conclusions than find out the truth. I mean seriously, if Mia had gotten married and had a baby I'm sure Travis' grandmother would have mentioned it to him at some point considering Mia does her hair every single week. And, if anyone should be feeling guilty about Travis' accident it should be his best friend Mike and not Mia. Mike should have said "no" to snowboarding after watching Travis put back several shots of liquor. Enough said.
Drowning In Love is my first book by Beth Rinyu and I enjoyed it. It is a story that is told over a period of 2 years so there is a lot going on!
First, we meet Mia within the Prologue. She is planning her wedding with her fiance Eric who she has loved for so long. They are high school sweetheart and he was her first and only love. What happens is so sad. Even though I knew what was coming I could not stop the tears. Mia is completely devastated and broken.
After just existing for a year and not truly living a happy life, Mia meets Travis Montgomery. Their first meeting wasn't all that good. Even though Mia though he was one of the most handsome men she has seen he acted arrogant and like a real jackass!
Travis had it all. He was hot, handsome, rich and we cannot forget he was Olympic swimmer!! What he was missing was the ability to love someone. He had plenty of women in his life and was your typical womanizer. You can tell he wanted that special someone but his life at the time, his life did not seem to allow for it. That is until he meets Mia.
Mia and Travis soon meet again and this time things went much better! :) I enjoyed reading about the two of them getting together. Travis was a famous athlete and Mia was just an ordinary person. She did not want for much and was content with her family and friends. That is what Travis loved about her. Things were simple. Mia was uncertain about taking their relationship to another level but Travis knew he wanted more. When they finally come together…..their chemistry was crazy hot!
However, Travis has a secret, one that would devastate Mia all over again. It was not that it was a horrible one (in my pov) because it was what brought them together but it was because he let it go on too long. Of course, there is a bitch in this story too by the name of Chloe and she is the one that serves the blow to Mia. Broken hearted, Mia breaks things off with Travis. This sends her into back to a place she had never wanted to be again. Stronger this time Mia tries to forget about Travis but because she loves him so much she is unable to.
Both of them struggle while apart. Travis wants nothing more than to gain Mia’s forgiveness but Mia is having a hard time getting past the secret. In the last quarter of the book, I was blindsided by what happens to Travis. I could not believe it. It was another struggle that he and Mia would have to try to get through. There was so much going on but Beth Rinyu does a wonderful job at pulling everything together and made Mia and Travis’ story such a sweet and loving one.
This is a fast pace story and you will fall in love with Mia and Travis. The other characters will suck you in too. There is Juan her boss and favorite friend, Paige her sweet little niece and family from both of them that add that extra dialogue and fun you need to round out this story.
If you enjoy stories about a second chance at love and relationships that overcome obstacles than then this is the perfect story. Enjoy!
