1. It's large. I could practically spin the helmet 360 degrees when on my head. This can be fixed with the addition of some padding, but it still looks a bit large in proportion to the body.
2. The wearer can easily be seen through the lenses. The good news is that they can be removed fairly easily with a mini screwdriver if you wish to tint them.
3. The padding is minimal, and constructed of a cheap open-cell foam.
4. The inside of the helmet is white, which doesn't help in regard to issue #2.
5. The "mesh" behind the frown is really just a thin black fabric (no mesh texture).
6. There's a noticeable seam that extends all the way across the helmet just beneath the frown.
Overall, it's a very nice helmet and a steal at under $200, especially considering it's wearable right out of the box. With an extra $50 in materials and a few hours of time, though, it can be greatly improved.
It is important for me to point out that the lenses on this helmet are green and transparent. Under low light it may seem opaque, however under well lit conditions, if you are to wear it, your eyes would be visible. That isn't so much of a problem for me, though I believe a key issue most customers would face would be with the helmet's assembly.
It is indeed true that the assembly/construction of this helmet is a nit sloppy. There are visible gaps in the sections where the helmet is put together, as such it is something for film accuracy purists to consider before purchase. In addition to that, the helmet I received had softer mould lines above the mic tips, possibly an issue with consistency off the factory line.
That being said, I am aware that I'm getting exactly what i paid for, a mass produced and cheaper replica of the iconic star wars prop helmet. I can confidently say that I do like it very much in spite of the possible issues that others might find with it. I must commend the fact that the helmet is slightly heftier than I expect it to be, i have built an FX stormtrooper helmet and even that helmet can't compare to this EFX collectible's replica's sturdiness. So that's a plus point to this product.
I'm only reducing a star off this item in my review on grounds that there could be inconsistencies across the production line...you could get lucky and get one with sharper moulding and cleaner lines/ less joint gaps. Either way I hope this helps other amazon buyers make their decisions!
A lot of "purists" will complain that it's not "screen accurate" and it won't be 501st acceptable without some modifications, but I consider this a plus. Screen accurate helmets have lots of cosmetic flaws (bumps/warts) and are asymmetrically shaped as a result of them being produced by hand to be used as prop pieces in the 1970s and look pretty dodgy when viewed up close.
This helmet does not have those imperfections and looks cleaner overall. It does have some visible mould lines / seams, the helmet creaks when flexed, and the lenses are not very dark (-1 star)
