However, not a single low-end crimper I've used can handle JST connectors. A few can handle the slightly larger Molex-style crimp pins (0.062" and 0.092" series, IIRC?), but they just make mincemeat of JST XH crimp pins. So, while these are pretty pricey (especially since they do not ratchet), they can handle tiny connectors.
Note that sometimes the pins will get stuck in the crimper, requiring you to rock them out. Do this gently! I've snapped a number of crimp pins by putting too much force trying to get them out. This only tends to happen if the pin/wire is a little to large or small for the given hole (but it's the closest one that's usable). Some WD-40 or other lubricant on the surface probably will help some.
Previously i have bought the El Cheap'o cheap Chinese ratchet crimpers from here and you know where bay.
None of those could even crimp a single Dupont style terminal correctly. Not a one!
They ruined every one and i ended up doing them by hand. I also invested in a die for my expensive Paladin 8000 that had the same problems.
Though its perfectly fine for large terminals, not so for the Duponts.
Note it does take a few tries to learn how to do it right but once you get the hang of it, i have found each crimp worked perfectly.
I really wish i had learned of the PA-09 crimpers 5 years ago. It would have saved me a few hundred bucks in junk crimpers.
So if you need to crimp more then a dozen Dupont style connectors in your lifetime (yes your lifetime), get one of these and never have to buy another crimper again!
These are not "cheap stamped" as in cheapy Chinese Dollar Store rubbish. They are in fact precise. The dies are exactly the correct shape and size, the jaws meet extremely accurately and the soft feel handles are absolutely appropriate for the delicate work done with these crimpers. Bottom line is there is no other crimper I know of that will do the tiny JST-SH, Molex Picoblade, and JST-ZH connectors with 1mm, 1.25 mm and 1.5mm spacing at under several hundred dollars.
This is a good solution for low run occasional work if you cannot justify the "production" quality gear. If you have been crimping these little guys with needle nosed pliers you will really appreciate these crimpers!
In reality, there is probably not much on a car (size wire gauge and amperage) that these would be appropriate for.
It's the only alternative to buying ready-made wires and the only way to make custom sized ones.
