4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas A very good ball head, for an excellent price! 28 de enero de 2014

I have this ball head, and have used it this year. It is smooth and works well for me. Feisol is an Oriental company that has been making first rate products since the early 2000s, for far less money. than the European brands. The savings wouldn't be worthwhile if the product wasn't good, and I am very pleased with mine. I have had one of their Carbon Fiber tripods since the early 2000s, and I still like it a lot. It holds up well in the wilderness, and for everything else. One last thing, on a professional photography supply website, the reviews all give it 5 start.

I took off one star because since it has a locking mechanism to keep the Feisol brand QR plates from sliding out sideways, it is not as easy to use with other brand QR plates, such as Kirk or generic. You have to push the locking button down to mount it properly. A small issue, but something to know.

1.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Do not buy...friction control knob is ridiculous 1 de abril de 2015

Do not buy...friction control knob is ridiculous. Whomever engineered this must be smoking crack.
The friction control knob rendered this useless while on vacation. I ran into this a few months before, but a pair of pliers got me out of a jam. Well, I didn't have a pair of pliers on vacation. So the thing is useless. You cannot move the ballhead if the friction control knob gets tightened too much. I toyed with it and turned it slightly tighter. Then it just gets jammed. Unless you have a herculean grip of your thumb and index finger, which has to be jammed between the knob (they are right next to eachother in the picture) , you simply cannot get out of it without pliers. It's a worthless piece of junk. Whoever designed it at feisol should be fired for being inept.

I was hoping for:
A good quality ball head and a reasonable price.

The reality:
1. The clamp release knob sticks out way too far.
2. The clamp is a guessing game regarding when it is firmly clamped to the camera plate. A few times I thought it was tight and it wasn't. A VERY bad thing and glad neither time resulted in disaster.
3. The panning screw can't get tight enough to stop rotational movement.
4. The Friction Control Knob (the one that's supposed to adjust the tension on the ball…not the main ball lock down knob) is a true mystery to me and VERY difficult to use. It's WAY too small and close to the body of the ball head. Feisol says "turn no more than 1/2 turn". Really. That means fine adjustments are nearly impossible and I found that to be the case.
5. The "feel" of the main ball knob is terrible.
6. I use 'L' plates on both of my camera. Therefore the Feisol plate will not work for me. That means the safety feature that only works with their plate makes it more difficult to attache the camera to the clamp. Very frustrating for me because I'm always going from horizontal to vertical (the reason I have 'L' plates).

A friend recently got Sirui ball heads for two of his tripods and loves them. So out with the Feisol and in with the Sirui (about the same money and specifications).
