This is a hefty light, seems very durable and performs fantastic.
We use this when searching to field to check on livestock, find the dog, and recently when we have been going coyote hunting. An Amber Lens found at Wal-mart will fit snugly on this light after applying 2 pieces of double sided foam tape to the lens. (will update with lens name the next time I see it at Wal-mart) Works amazing even on the second brightest setting (setting 2 of 4)
Not a huge fan of the on/off switch or the fact that you have to cycle completely through the brightness settings to get to the one you want, but they both seem durable and it is merely a preference issue not a functionality problem.
The ability to shorten the battery tube is beneficial due to the weight of the light. For prolonged use this may prove beneficial, but as prolonged use requires more batteries for longer duration of burn it may be counterproductive.
As other reviewers have stated this is an exceptionally bright light with a magnificent light throw. It lights up the area completely and sufficiently to see anything in its path. With the amber lens it even cuts through fog.
Pros: bright, economical considering lumens per dollar.
Cons: looks like a plunger, you will need a good set of NiMH rechargeable batteries for all modes to work. I use Accuevolution. There are few (maybe none?) alkaline D-Cells with the capacity a D-Cell is intended to have. The major brand names rip you off with a repackaged AA.
