Lots of the smaller pieces are not simply painted on but actual plastic pieces. Her jewelry like ecklace and braclets are seperate pieces. The beadwork on her shirt was nicely done.
My only real problem in durability. Vanille herself is not at all a problem. Her wand piece has two delecite pieces on the side. On my figure the piece is falling off, I am probably simply going to glue it back in place.
also it's really hard to let her stand even the stand is useless and can't hold her well like the other FF-13 characters, but in the end, she will stand if try couple of times so I kind of accepted that.
overall, she's amazing and if you're collecting the FF-13 so go ahead and buy her!
Well, back to the point of this. I noticed the Assassins Creed theme on the ps3 changed to a FFXIII theme. Also, on the Xbox, her avatar still physically looks like her (Tiny, skinny, glasses, black hair) but it's wearing a Vanille outfit and her quote changed to "Hi, I'm Vanilla-Val". A hint I think!
I ordered this as kind of a joke gift, but after seeing it the joke was on me. It is fantastic! Beautifully detailed and very poseable.
It doesn't feel fragile, although her wand-sticky-thingie fell apart at the glued joint(fixed with a new drop of superglue), the rest of the doll is solid and durable.
The articulation joints don't stand out like they do on most action figures. They are visible, like in the knees, but they aren't distracting from the overall look like they do on most collectible figures.
Again, the detail is amazing and even when our four year old got his hands on it, Vanille didn't break or lose color chips, much to the relief of my wife!
The stand it comes with is well articulated but pretty crappy. It's designed to not be seen, just give support. Vanille doesn't really need it because she is well balanced and poseable enough to stand on her own, but I'd use it anyway.
Haven't found a need for the additional hands. its either slightly open hands or slightly less open hands. Kinda useless. Also, her other weapon needs to be strapped on her back, looks silly without it.
So, yes my wife broke open the box, and that means means the collector value can go up a tiny bit for those sealed ones that will never be opened. Who buy toys to sit on shelves in boxes? I never understood that but to each his or her own. My wife has sealed collector barbies like that and it drives me crazy. She says this isn't a barbie though, and should be taken out and posed and admired.
Bottom line, the most hated character on Final Fantasy XIII is the best action figure. The entire series has this level of detail but Vanille really stands out with her bright colors, slight smile, and posability. At the comic store there was a Lightning and a Snow on display but they seemed stiff, less poseable, and slightly grumpy.
I am not a fan of FFXIII. I can't wrap my brain around the gameplay or the weird character and weapon upgrades, and I think this chapter in the series was truly aimed towards gamergirls. But my wife loves it. The shame of it is that, like most Final Fantasy characters, they have one game and thats it. We already know what a waste that is, but we also how a sequel can be terrible.
