INSTANT INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER * NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * #1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER
The first, epic and true story of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s life together, finally revealing why they chose to pursue a more independent path, despite Harry’s deep devotion to his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, and the reasons behind their unprecedented decision to step away from their royal lives, from two top royal reporters who have been behind the scenes since the couple first met. Finding Freedom is complete with full color photographs from Harry and Meghan’s courtship, wedding, Archie’s milestones, every unforgettable moment.
When news of the budding romance between a beloved English prince and an American actress broke, it captured the world’s attention and sparked an international media frenzy. But while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have continued to make headlines—from their engagement, wedding, and birth of their son Archie to their unprecedented decision to step back from their royal lives—few know the true story of Harry and Meghan.
For the very first time, Finding Freedom goes beyond the headlines to reveal unknown details of Harry and Meghan’s life together, dispelling the many rumors and misconceptions that plague the couple on both sides of the pond. As members of the select group of reporters that cover the British Royal Family and their engagements, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand have witnessed the young couple’s lives as few outsiders can.
With unique access and written with the participation of those closest to the couple, Finding Freedom is an honest, up-close, and disarming portrait of a confident, influential, and forward-thinking couple who are unafraid to break with tradition, determined to create a new path away from the spotlight, and dedicated to building a humanitarian legacy that will make a profound difference in the world.

I have always favoured Harry from the moment he was born. He was always the mischievous one yet lived in his brother's shadow. Yes he was a spare but he is now nowhere near an heir, but that's another book. In my mind Meghan became his saviour. You can see they love and respect each other very much. They should be allowed to live their own lives without intrusion and finance their way through life as they see fit. We have already seen how gracious they are and how they give a lot of thought to their actions.
The Sussexes have 2 beautiful children and do a lot of good with their respective charity work and projects. It is only right they be applauded and recognised not vilified.
The authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand are duly qualified to write about their subjects, having had years of reporting and travelling with the Royal family under their belts. Their knowledge and style of writing is impeccable. I loved the elegant stylised type font and all the photos. In my view a real classy book!
Lots of stories and explanations about the start of their relationship and where things went wrong from their perspective. To them,
It’s clear that William and Kate dropped the ball when it came to making Meghan feel welcomed. Granted, their position and family situation (3 young kids) made welcoming her a mid level priority for them, but when you’re gong to be King and Queen Consort one day you should have a better grasp of multitasking especially when it comes to your family. Kate knows what it’s like to be a new family member and her blatant dismissal of Meghan when she first arrived just showed she was insecure and jealous of Meghan from the start. (To be fair, I understand why Kate was salty after Meghan and Harry were allowed certain exemptions of certain traditions I.e. early Christmas invitations and such). Harry was always a big supporter of William and Kate’s relationship and it would have been fair if they had reciprocated for Harry’s sake. (W and K were just plain selfish). I get it. Meghan and Harry don’t have the same strict guidelines holding them in place, but that’s the difference between marrying the older heir apparent(Kate) and marrying the spare who has more freedom (Meghan). The book details how Harry wanted to move away from the royal family for a while (for various reasons) and explains how it was HARRY who wanted to end the misery of living under “The Firm’s” thumb, the same way his mother did, though Meghan got the blame.
The book details how Harry and Meghan were vilified by the British press, yes racism plays a HUGE part in the British culture, but they would have ripped H and M the same way they ripped Fergie for NOT being Diana. It’s their form of entertainment across the pond, and H and M refused to stand for it. (Good for them! )
In the end, Harry and Meghan will continue to be blasted and vilified (just read the other reviews of this book with 1-2 star ratings) for no other reason than Harry and Meghan unapologetically decided that their mental health and happiness were more important than titles, money or standing on the balcony at Buckingham palace waving. They realized that there was so much more to life than to be in some display case for people to judge and stare at.
I enjoyed this book, though there were some parts (mostly background info) that ran bit long in their explanation for those of us who have followed their story (and Harry’s life) from the beginning. The backstory of Meghan being a hardworking, intelligent activist for various organizations was an excellent addition. The book highlights her middle class upbringing (basically ripping a hole in the British press’ racist allusions to her “Compton” life, and demonstrates that unlike Kate, Meghan was an independent woman working for the betterment of the world and self improvement instead of waiting for a prince to come along and marry her. (that’s why the press named her Waitey Katie). Meghan was a world travelled, experienced, compassionate addition to the Royals, and because she was driven and focused and hardworking, and yes, mixed race, it rubbed the people who expected her to simply be ornamental the wrong way.
My favorite bit of knowledge was the fact that Meghan was ripped in the press for not standing outside the Lido Wing after Archie was born to take photos for the same Press that ripped her, but it wasn’t a tradition until Princess Anne did it. The Queen and other new royal mothers didn’t perform this act EVER before that, and to read about the outrage because Meghan didn’t blindly follow suit with Diana, Fergie and Kate was jaw dropping. Again, this demonstrated that Meghan has her own mind and wasn’t going to simply follow fake traditions to keep a band of vicious British press mongrels happy.
The H and M love story is adorable, and told with such detail you can’t really believe they didn’t have a hand or say in its retelling. (Who else was there for these private rendezvous and could detail what was running through their minds and bits of conversations had during those times...who saw Meghan performing yoga in Africa across from the active watering hole? Hi Meg!) These are two people who have found each other, supported each other, encouraged each other to be brave and loved each other from the start.
The book makes it clear that while Harry is the Queen’s favorite grandchild and she supports his decision to move on, the show must go on for the Royal Family. Leaving his military carrier behind was probably the most painful choice for Harry, but protecting his wife and baby was more important to him, especially after watching what happened to his mother. I wish there was more to the book, but it’s only the beginning of this story. There’s nothing more to do than to wait and see how this story continues. Will Harry and William patch things up? Will H and M regularly return to England with Archie to establish the family bond with the cousins? Will the British Royal Family end once Q.E. Passes on? Will the Press acknowledge their roll in pushing these young royals away? Only time will tell!
I can't see how it has been allowed to be published..This book is only fit for the trash bin..
