HASH(0x9c77a468) de un máximo de 5 estrellas A great history of a rare ship 7 de mayo de 2011

Formato: Tapa blanda
Freedom of the Seas arrived yesterday is a most impressive book and a fitting account of a rarely discussed ship. The book covers the complete history of the German Aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin from its inception to the discovery of the wreck. The clarity and variety of the photos are astounding, especially the early construction shots but the real pictorial highlight are the sonargrams of the wreck which is in relatively good condition. This is not just a picture book, the text is both comprehensive and readable and the memories of a former crewman who served on this ship add a personal dimension to the story of this ship. To wrap it all up there is an excellent series of ships plans. This would be the single best reference book available on the history of the Graf Zeppelin. A close second best is Breyers 2004 book Graf Zeppelin.

8 1/4 x 10 1/2--228 pages-softback-glossy thick paper///112 b/w photos/37 color photos/9 diagrams/2 color diagrams/2 charts/ 3 page fold out with 4 deck plans,,and another 24 schematics. Most of the photos are full page with basically divided between construction and crew duties while in port. Most of the color photos deal with having been taken underwater of the wreck site- awesome. I really liked this book as it deals with a seldom covered ship. A very good companion to this is the Polish book Graf Zeppelin #42 by AJ Press. That one deals with computer generated views of how the finished ship would have looked like. With 112 pages of info in that one ,the two books will cover everything you need on this forgotten carrier. This book has several listings at $300.00--I got mine for $56.00. Take time and shop. Hope this helps,CAP
