Bottom line, myQ from Chamberlain which works with most garage door openers these days is a much better solution and has the backing of a big company behind it and it cost much less ($129.99). It's also a much cleaner solution as you only need to have a wifi router hung anywhere in your garage with no messy wires unlike the GoGo gate which has wires hooking into your door openers and limits the placement of the router. I don't see this product competing unless they drop the price, improve the software and get better customer service.
I had some challenges getting the senor to work due to the way my garage door had been installed (mount blocked by metal frame of door), and the customer service people went all out to help me. They sent step by step pictures, responded promptly, and when I needed phone support, they waited AFTER HOURS until I got home from work to assist me. Seriously- they waited and even called me!
It works perfectly, gives my wife and I peace of mind that we shut the garage door, and I'd buy it again/recommend it to anyone and everyone. Cannot rate this high enough!
Next, the two items which must be installed to alert whether the garage is open or closed was very hard to install. Even though it is magnetic, it would not remain in place when the garage door would open or close. It moved as the door opened and closed. Next difficulty was to arrange the two pieces as close as possibly so the connection would work. In the end, I had to drill into my garage door and screw the product in place so it would not move.
Once these two difficulties were completed, the product works great. It was puzzling to determine whether the indicating sign on your app meant opened or closed, but by process of elimination, I figured it out.
It would have been useful to know these trail and error things ahead of installation.
I would recommend this product. It does allow peace of mind if your garage door is open or closed if you cannot be around to witness in person. You can also open and close it from your smart phone which is awesome.
I have only had this installed for about two hours and if everything continues like it has this is going to be as cool as my nest and nest protects. This company should work with the new nest developer program for the workswithnest program that would be sweet, kick your ac on when you open your garage door. What I liked about this opener over the others is you can also use it locally. You don't have to use their remote access service if you don't want. I am hoping that means if they go under I can still use this via wifi or VPN or even open my router port and hitting it remotely. I have already forwarded port 8001 and I can't hit the gogogate on port 8001 from the outside world to the local IP reservation I gave the gogogate but I am hoping I can get that working. This little device is great. One thing I can't do is mount the sensor where they say in the manual. I have a cable that runs down the side of my garage door that's in the way. I am going to draw up a bracket in cad tomorrow to fix this. Mount the sensor transmitter about 6" off the top of the door on the wall. Then have a bracket that holds the magnet 6" inches off the top of the door that's mounted to the door so when the door closes the sensor comes in contact with the sensor transmitter. I have seen alarm companies do this. I only have one garage door so I mounted the gogogate above my garage door opener were there was close power and easy access to the opener leads. I have this hooked up to an OverHead Phantom opener and it works fine. Another thing I would like to see from GOGOGATE is since I only have one door. I would like to see if you are not using the other two ports you can turn them off and they will not show up on the app. I highly recommend this product and I will update my review if that changes.
