first off my old hard drives wouldn't even boot when I placed them in this motherboard
it would just freeze and blue screen at the windows logo when loading desktop
so I put a new hard disk in this motherboard and format it
everything went well... except I have no clue on how to use my storage hard disk now...
another problem I had was that the on-board sound was not working bought a sound card
after a couple of hours fighting with drivers and stuff I got the mic working
another thing might be the ram I ordered was the corsair vengeance 1600mhz
it's a possibility that the ram doesn't show up in the supported memory list and runs at 1333mhz
And last thing would be the heat-sink does kind of run hot.
The Realtek LAN port would send but couldn't receive. Tried different operating systems and changed ethernat cables. Gigabyte technical support spent a couple hours on the phone with me troubleshooting the problem, and we finally decided the board was defective.
Gigabyte will only service the motherboard. The computer had already been down six days, and the board was only 7 days old, so Gigabyte recommended I return it for a replacement.
Vendor was Atlanta Network Technologies (ANTOnline). They do not replace defective products, they will only issue a refund. Couldn't even strike a cross-shipping deal where I paid for the replacement.
But then I have to pay for return shipping. Hmmm. I paid shipping costs to have the bad product sent to me, now I have to pay (and insure) to send it back?
And I had to "apply" for an RMA - AntOnline's own words: apply for an RMA which they will review and approve. It's a questionnaire! Did I open the package? Can they resell it? You can fertilize the garden with it for all I care! It isn't my fault that it doesn't work.
Finally the RMA approval arrives by email - at 6:05PM on a Wednesday - telling me that I had 10 days to get the part back to them. Not "10 business days" but "10 days". With a holiday weekend in between, no less. Calculating it out, that meant it had to be in their hands on Friday of the following week - since day ten is a Saturday, and the holiday in between meant I had to use three day shipping just to be sure it arrived on time.
So $86 to buy this pile of flotsam, and $38 to ship it back, means I'll recover about half of my costs. And my 30-days from date of purchase "guarantee" won't end until 16 days from today.
You look at their return policies and see if you see any of this "apply" and "review for approval" and "rush it back" in them. I didn't.
The sad part is that this has soured me on ever again buying anything from Amazon.com. You'll see this vendor popping up all over the place on many electronic items. You expect that Amazon rides loose herd on the merchants they seem to feature. Apparently not.
If it offends you that I down-rated the board because of the vendor, grow a pair. The board had a manufacturing defect identified and agreed-to by Gigabyte. Gigabyte will only service the board and you'll pay shipping in both directions)so down one star (warranty is important). The vendor was surly and the return policies are draconian (and not spelled-out here at Amazon.com) so down another star.
Amazon has not done a good job in mediating between the vendor and me so down a third star.
Times are hard, folks. I have very good components that are more than adequate for my use, and there's no reason to replace any of them except the failing motherboard that's out of warranty. I wasn't trying to buy cheap - you search for LGA775 components and see how little pops-up. Although Intel will continue to accept orders for LGA775 CPU's until the end of October 2011, the other manufacturers have already discontinued their LGA775 lines.
I don't expect the best of the best. I expect what I pay for to work, and when it doesn't work, I expect a shopkeeper to either replace it or give me a refund. To make it right, not make it worse.
When we buy on Amazon.com and go through the Amazon.com check-out process, we should feel confident. I no longer do. I've been treated much more fairly and honestly on auction websites.
Running six SATA hard drives.
Running two ASUS optical drives on SYBA SATA150R controller.
Running Hauppauge PCIx TV card
Running 16gb GSKill Ripjaw
Video is Radeon 6950 not o/c
Using X-Mystique sound card
Great gigabyte construction quality. Highly recommend.
Con: Onboard sound is either analog or RCA optical, and not very good. Only one PCIe slot.
