My husband is somewhat difficult to shop for, but loves brain teasers and strategy games. This Christmas, I bought Eclipse for a couple of reasons:
1. It looked fun and challenging; like something my husband would enjoy.
2. It's aesthetically pleasing, the pieces and board are beautiful; something that I wouldn't mind being left on the coffee table.
It has lived up to my expectations. On Christmas morning, he wanted to play it as soon as he opened it. We have both enjoyed it very much, and have also shared it with friends who like it. Eclipse is engaging and challenging. Lots of fun, even for non-math brains like me. :-)

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas A fast, simple, fun, and elegant strategy game for all ages 1 de septiembre de 2010

I'm a fan of abstract strategy games (chess, go, othello, etc.) and have loved the recent innovations the Gigamic company has come up with. Eclipse is another winner. The game and pieces are well designed, gameplay is fast-paced and the rules are simple and intuitive. The point of the game is to trao your opponent's "Comet" piece using your chained pieces. You are also able to trap your opponent's chained pieces, but there is no capturing, so gameplay can get interesting depending on how the action spatially develops. Games I've played usually last 10 minutes once you get the rules down. All in all, it's an entertaining, elegant game that I can play with my nephews (who are 10 years old) and my father (who is a very experienced chess player) as well as my board-game-loving friends and everyone is happy. Do yourself a favor and check out this game and anything else from this company (e.g. Quads, Quarto, Quoridor, Skybridge, etc.)

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Far from the crappy twilight book 24 de octubre de 2010

This board game is amazing. Don't try and look online for rules, or play it virtually... BUY THIS! The strategy involved in this game is not hardcore strato chess (which I also recommend). The game makes you think stratigically (spelled wrong?). The age level I would say is 8+ for the thinking (the older the better). This is one of the favorite games for family board game night along with quoridor (which I also recommend).

I have been waiting for what feels like forever to justify purchasing this game. We already own some other strategy games: quoridor, cathedral, quarto (all of which I strongly recommend). The game went up to >$60, then disappeared, then I sweat for several months assuming I'd missed the boat.

I have to say, this game does NOT disappoint. So far, every single game my husband and I have played has been lively, and unexpectedly challenging. We tend take our game playing quite seriously, and this game, like quarto and cathedral, requires a lot of "strategery." I felt that it was just as important to be offensive as defensive, and every play has an obvious (and sometimes not so obvious trade off). Unlike quoridor, which many times leads to tit for tat, with an opponent winning merely because their move was first, this game is hard to predict.

No regrets!! It's a total eclipse of our heart.

I like the idea of this game and it is fun, but once you start playing it doesn't grab you to play again like quoridor, gobblet, or quarto.
