1)The most frustrating thing is it DESTROYS the iPhone's ability to take a good picture (And I bought this phone mainly for its camera). It makes everything hazy, and any light sources have terrible halos around them. Even looking through the case, you can tell the plastic is NOT clear. See attached for an example)
2)It leaks - I cant take my phone in the shower without water infiltrating it
3)If its wet forget about typing at all - I thought this was a limitation of the iPhone and touch screens, but I bought another case where this works great
4)The TouchID sensor is sticky, despite being used for 9 months
5)The screen protector gets scratched up and marred very easily
6)It breaks easily. After taking your phone in and out a few times, the tabs that snap the screen in WILL fail
That being said, it has a few good things going for it:
1)Its rubber surfaces give a good grip (I can toss it on the dashboard of my car and it wont slide around), and they also provide some impact protection
2)When I took my phone out to put a new case on, it sill looked brand new
That being said, I would not buy another Survivor case until they change their design. There are some very cheap cases that do everything the Survivor claims (and fails) to do. I got the case Im using now thats fully waterproof for $20, and it works great.
Second, this case is advertised as iPhone 5s compatible. It fits the iPhone 5s, but you will NOT be able to use the fingerprint scanner that allows you to bypass entering your pass code (i.e., forget using the Touch ID feature). Haven't tested its "waterproofness," but the case immediately bulked up my iPhone 5s. Not sure if my iPhone is any safer in this case, however.
One of my favorite iPhone cases is the Thule Atmos X3 - and I suspect my iPhone would easily survive a drop in that case, as it would in this case. In other words, I don't think this case adds any more protection, in terms of drops, than the Thule case.
In terms of appearance, its Buzz Lightyear (from Toy Story fame) compared to my other cases. I like that, for as protective as it purports to be, it's relatively easy to put on and off - certainly much easier than the Thule, so it scores higher in that respect.
For the sheer amusement, I'll keep it - but it'll likely be rotated often among my many other cases.
THE GOOD: Every piece snaps together perfectly, and the phone is really secure and protected. Very well designed. With this case in place, I don't need to worry so much about dropping my phone.
THE BAD: The hard plastic inner case prevents headphones and AUX cables from being inserted all the way. With this case in place, I cannot put in headphones or plug my iPhone into my car. Taking the case off to do so is not only time-consuming and tricky (it is well designed to stay in place), but unrealistic. Also, taking the case off leaves my iPhone unprotected.
OVERALL: I love this product and but this flaw ruins it for me. Someone who never uses the headphone jack would love this case.
If you are carry your phone in a pocket or purse this should not be an issue for you, however, my plan was to utilize the belt clip and the way it is designed it does not function well at all.
The outer silicone/rubber case is not as grippy as I thought it would be, I washed it off thinking their might be some manufacturing residue on it but that did not help. I put a Fishbone case on my old phone that was very grippy, both the plastic and silicone for the case provided a very good handhold for the phone.
My recommendation would be if you are planning to utilize the belt clip stay away from this case, Otterbox has a much better design the way their belt clip attaches to the phone.
I don't see where this case is necessarily any heavier duty than other cases on the market, it is advertised as a "Military-Duty Case & Belt Clip". The one good thing about the belt clip...once snapped in it will not come unattached very easily...it will tear the silicone rubber when removing it and dismantle your case when you attempt to re-attach it to the belt clip.
One small annoyance also is you have to really push the volume controls hard to adjust the volume control with this case.
With the poorly designed belt clip, bulkiness of the case that makes it difficult for pocket use and the volume control issue I would not recommend this case.
Update 12-23-13: Unable to swipe up from the bottom to open "control panel". I emailed Griffon with photos of my issues and found out that this is a counterfeit case. Seller immediately refunded my purchase and advised they purchase from an authorized seller. As the saying goes if it is too good to be true it is. After doing some research it turns out that their are a lot of counterfeit cases out there in various brands....do your homework, it pays to buy the original product instead of trying to save a few bucks and fattening the pockets of some illegal counterfeiter.
