If you're looking for a bedroom fan, don't even think about Hunter. I bought this fan six months ago and only used it for a couple of months before turning it off for the winter. But spring is humid on the Gulf Coast so I recently started using it again at night for sleeping. I always sleep with a ceiling fan on in warm months and use the chain to turn the light on and off. I live in the country so power outages -- usually just for a minute or two -- are not uncommon. They were never a problem until I had the Hunter fan installed. Unbeknownst to me, when there's a power outage with a Hunter fan that has a light fixture, the lights are wired to come on once power is restored. It doesn't matter if it's 10 o'clock in the morning, 3 o'clock in the afternoon or 2 o'clock in the morning. If there's a power outage, when power is restored, the lights on the fan will come on -- even though you only have the fan running with no lights! Imagine my joy of learning this at 2 a.m. when my electricity flashed on an off three times within an hour -- each time jolting me awake when the lights suddenly turned on. Finally I gave up on going back to sleep. Somewhere a village is missing its idiot. So I can either unscrew the light bulbs during the summer to use the fan only and have no overhead lighting -- or get a new fan that isn't wired idiotically.

I wish I had been forewarned before purchasing this that Hunter fans are designed by incompetents -- but at least you won't have to make the same mistake as I did. ANYTHING BUT HUNTER.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Great basic fan 17 de diciembre de 2011

This fan received mixed reviews, but it turned out to be very nice. Even at high speed it is nearly silent, and well balanced. The overload protection for the light bulbs is pretty annoying, causing a slight delay when turning on via the wall switch, and is incompatible with CFLs. It is possible to remove the limiting circuit and wire power straight to the lights by replacing the pull chain switch. Also note that this fan uses small candelabra stype bulbs, and not standard full size bulbs.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Love This Fan!!! 3 de julio de 2012

I've installed numerous ceiling fans over the years, and this one was the easiest install of all. I always try to use Hunter brand because they make things as easy as possible, and this fan is no exception.

This fan also has a couple cool features that I discovered after the installation was complete. First, (I'm running off of a single wall switch) when turning off the light via pull chain, and leaving the fan on, and then later turning the fan off via the wall switch, when you re-enter the room and turn the wall switch on, the lights will come on without having to pull the chain again. Also, when you hold down the pull chain for the light, the lights slowly dim to the brightness you want. Very cool if you ask me. And I have to say, the fan is stealthly quiet!!!

Yes, as one of the other reviewers stated, there is a 1-2 second delay from the time you flip the wall switch to the time the lights come on. But, for me it's not an issue.

Overall, this is a very nice product. Thanks Hunter!

1.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Not working out- buy another brand 3 de julio de 2012

Almost 2 years ago we purchased 7 Hunter ceiling fans for our house- 6 are model 23898. We really like the look of the fans and the installation was a breeze. However the lights in 3 of the 6 are self dimming and the other model is skipping fan speeds. On this model of a fan the pull chain for the light has a built in dimmer. When we turn on the light we might have 30sec or 3 minutes then the light dims and the only way to shut it off is to flip the wall switch off. All of these were professionally wired and are in different rooms on different breakers. The problem doesn't appear to be wiring related but more of a quality issue. I've sent several emails to Hunter without a reply from them. To make matters worse I cant buy a replacement pull chain\dimmer switch without purchasing the entire light assembly. In an effort to keep from having to replace all the lights in our house- again I am looking into replacing the switch with a standard pull chain replacement switch from the hardware store. If it doesn't work then I guess I have a bunch of ceiling fans for my garage!

Save your money.
