2.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas This product did not meet my expectation or needs 3 de agosto de 2013

The first issue is that it does not support two way communications between the printer and the connected computer. That means that status messages (running low on ink) and iterative print jobs (two sided printing - needing to message back to the application) do not work. It will print, but no status messages can get back to the user.

I decided to use the switch anyway and see if I could deal with these shortcomings, but found that I needed to occasionally reboot one or the other computer to reestablish connection with the switch. That is not something that I want to deal with.

So it is now one more piece of equipment that sits disconnected and I am back to moving a cable every time I want to connect my shared printer.

3.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Printer sharing multifunction issues 13 de marzo de 2010

Recently bought this product for office use to connect 2 computers to our multifunction printer/scanner/fax. We mainly needed it for scanner sharing as the printer had been connected via our network and for some reason Windows cannot configure scanner sharing even though it is the same device.

It is very easy to set up. You will need to install the software on both computers. The print sharing works without a problem. Sometimes there is a bit of a delay but not a major issue. Unfortunately it appears that the automatic switching only occurs when printing and not when scanning as when you try to scan from the other computer it will not connect. You can "force" the switch by first printing a blank page and then doing the scan. A little bit of extra work. Too bad the switch is not bidirectional. Will likely buy one of the manual switches to avoid the hassle. You need to be by the scanner anyway to load the documents.

I purchased this unit to share an HP Color LaserJet 2025dn between two IBM ThinkPad laptops running Windows XP SP3. The switch software installed fine though my desk layout created some challenges:

[Laptop #1]___________________________________Printer
__________>--[IOGear AutoSwitch]--[USB Hub]--<
[Laptop #2]___________________________________Scanner

This diagram (ignore the underscores, if you can) shows how I've hooked up the switch and in the process, added my old reliable Visioneer scanner to the setup. The switch works great, automatically sending print-jobs from either laptop. To use the scanner from a laptop that is not already connected (by having been the most recent print-job sender) I just click on the system tray icon and click on the 'Switch' button. Presto! Scanner is enabled on that laptop. Maybe not a big thing but it is really nice to have my wife be able to both print and now scan with no unplugging/plugging hassle.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Very functional switch 27 de abril de 2009

It took a few frustrating print attempts to get used to how the switch works, but it does do its job well so no complaints now. As long as you press "switch" and then "OK" (after clicking on the icon) you should be fine. The icon is yellow or red when you start a new print job after your computer has gone to sleep, went in to shutdown mode, or released printing to another unit on the network. The icon (a large sphere like object on your dock) turns green when it's ready to go. This sounds very intuitive, but sometimes it still takes a "Switch-OK" sequence even when it's already "green."

Taking the device home to Switzerland it worked as expected after the software installation on both computers. Just keep in mind that there is a tiny delay in time when the printing order is coming from the other/second PC. I'm very pleased! JL
