Reseña del editor
Jolene loves junk food. She loves it so much she wears red licorice in her hair--and pink taffy underwear! The Munch Bunch calls her "The Junk Food Queen." Then, one night in her dreams, she meets a bunch of cool characters who take her on an incredible, edible journey into a world of juicy fruits, super salads and yummy smoothies.

This is a picture book, with a lot of text on every page. The colorful illustrations will bring lots of giggles, especially when reading about Jolene’s outfit at the beginning of the story, as well as the descriptions of the colorful characters throughout the story. It will have your kids asking for a reread! The story would be a good read aloud for older kids, especially during a lesson focusing on nutrition. I’m sure it would lead to lots of questions and great discussions about healthy foods. It would also work well with preschoolers, especially when you’re trying to ease into books with more text and would like to read a story over multiple days. Finally, I really like the emphasis on healthy, but delicious foods that is found throughout the book. I also like that it frequently mentions that some sugar is okay, just not quite as much as Jolene would like! So happily, we can forget our guilty consciences and have a cookie from time to time! And there are recipes for lots of Smoothies at the end of the book – a real bonus. It made me want to make one very soon!
Ms. Palmer sent a copy of this book to me, in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, Alexa!

This whimsical read is full of vivid descriptions, quirky characters, and, obviously, some pretty heavy-handed health lessons. Though not a short picture book by any means, it is an engaging and fun story that kept my 4-year-old entertained. Overall, I think the book provides a pretty balanced perspective on healthy eating; I had feared early on it would vilify ‘junk food’ to an extreme. The illustrations are fabulous, which really enhances the reading experience on such a wacky adventure. The piece of the story I appreciate most is Jolene feeling comfortable with her knowledge and confident enough to help those around her – empowering young people to feel they can make a difference is so important.
My 4-year-old says “it was funny and silly and made hungry!”
