Don't waste your money! especially since it was only $16 when I bought it last year as part of my daughter's Christmas present with the KidKraft Kitchen, which is actually fantastic! These food items are cheap and most likely made of toxic plastic. We threw the hotdogs away before giving the set to my daughter as the pieces seemed very small and a possible choking hazard. The milk and juice cartons fell apart in a few days, the plastic foods are crushed easily, and the labels on the canned foods peeled off. We've been slowing throwing pieces away all year so I decided to replace the rest with some of the Melissa & Doug play foods which are pricier but great quality! I agree with another reviewer that mentioned that a lot of the foods are junk food; hamburger, hotdogs, pizza, fried chicken leg, donuts, soda pop. Not what I want to expose my kid to even if it's just pretend! Yes there are fruits and vegetables included as well but they are disproportionate to each other and not very educational. Very disappointed with this toy!

There are better food sets out there. We purchased this when we purchased a play kitchen. I don't really have anything good to say about this product. Let's outline a few reasons why not to buy this product:

1) Junk food - it has so many pieces of junk food that it is hardly setting a good example. I'm not trying to be an overbearing mother, but if we want our kids to develop good habits, it doesn't make sense to let them play with a bunch of french fries and hot dogs. When we started unboxing the toy, we started taking away all of the junk food and were left with maybe half of what was in the original box.

2) cheaply made - the items very poorly made. Some of the pieces are made of cardboard - not even good cardboard...I might as well make it out of notebook paper.

3) No thought in this at all - We got two salt shakers. I understand that there is cost put into making these items, but come on! It would have better if each salt shaker had an s on one side and a p on one side.

There are just much better food sets and for the same or less money.
3.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas While I think it's a good product for toddlers to learn 22 de diciembre de 2014

I probably would not purchase this set again. While I think it's a good product for toddlers to learn, I feel that the plastic is cheap and too slippery for my toddler. Also there are too many items that seem appealing, but not very useful. More than half of the items are just in a box. In retrospect I would have bought smaller sets with better textures. For example the hamburger bun -- probably should purchase felt play items so she can stack them easier than this plastic one, because of the texture, you can't stack them, they slide right off. Some of the cardboard products are too cheap looking, or unrealistic (packaging doesn't have much appeal) so my toddler didn't have much interest. I did purchase a smaller set from Learning Resources and their products had a more matte texture which allowed easier handling for my toddler.

I bought a play kitchen and already have a nice set of food bought from Target for cheaper so I thought these items would be of equal quality or nicer. I was wrong. My three year old loves them but my 20 month old daughter has already bitten a few pieces and they completely caved in. She gnaws on the other play food set constantly and all pieces still look perfect 2 months later. I immediately stashed the cans with labels and the "cardboard" box items so I can tape them up in hopes they may last longer than a day. Most of the boxes were even ruined and caved in upon arrival. I do like the wide selection of food things though. Even the "junk" some people complain about, but that's pretty much all that I like. Overall I'm not happy with this purchase at all and wish I would have spent a little more on the Step 2 brand of play food instead. I can honestly say this set will probably wind up in the garbage within a month or two. Three if I'm lucky. In which case I will promptly buy the other brand.

My daughter had a similar set by the same manufacturer 5 years ago, which was of better quality than what we just received. Now, this is never going to be one of those durable, eco- friendly Melissa & Doug sets-- I wouldn't expect that for 125 pieces at less than $30-- but at least it used to contain reasonably durable plastic pieces with cute labels on the cans (realistic mini versions of Progresso, Green Giant, etc), many of which have gotten lost in our house but the remainder of which have been fun to play with for both kids (7 and 2).

So I was hopeful this latest set would help us replace missing pieces from the old set. I was unprepared for just how steeply the quality ha declined. Several of the pretend cartons and boxes are just thin card stock that my toddler crushed and destroyed in 30 seconds. The other pieces are of a very thin, brittle plastic (in some cases with jagged holes and tags from the molding process), and in many cases the food is not a realistic shape, size, or color. The labels on the pretend cans and boxes are just generic, clumsy pictures of corn, peas and sometimes even things we can't figure out (is it nuts? Jelly beans?). The whole thing gives off a severe "made very cheaply by people who don't care, and designed to self-destruct and join the landfill ASAP" vibe. I mean SEVERE. Avoid this one.
