As the video I attached, this product was portable, with legible screen. All the button is easy to identify with different colors, what's more,I found that this product's price is almost 200$ cheaper than that of local store.
The menu has three options(diagnose, settings, help). As I checked and chose parts of functions to test, you can watch the video.Settings, this button is used for language changing, data record setting, and voice setting, ect. The last one is help, here was some information about my experience in car testing.
There were four selections of diagnosis. OK, I used the frist one(OBDII/EOBD,check enigne)to check my HONDA. It's fast to contect my car.when reading the codes,it displayed no fault codes here.
About the scan, there were various kinds of car brands ,most commonly used cars are covered.I select HONDA,which i've used for years. I did both automatic and manual scan mode,The results displayed in a few seconds later, which showed my seat belt buckle got a problem.actually,it was eroded. After cleared it the SRS light was turned off.About the engine system scanning,it's able to test 47 detailed configuration, like the HO2S,ST fuel TRIM,Battery,A/C clutch date,I did test, all things worked fine.
The second day,I did many tests, and i got some problems about this product. I called Launch Tech USA for help, they told me they can not help me.So I consulted the seller, they told me Launch Tech USA was a branch from China, who to some extent was competitor with them online sellers,so they would not help consumers if the product was not bought from them.Well,i was confused and doubt whether it's original from Launch, to my surprise, the seller asked me to tell them the S/N number on the back side of the device and they offerd me proof certificate from Launch very quickly. And i was happy to know it's original. A kind reminder, guys who bought this device just contact seller but not Launch Tech USA for technical support.
This product is very useful for me.Really love it for its wonderful performance, careful design and powerful function.
First of all this is a Creader VIII NOT a LAUNCH CR129, so the LAUNCH site, downloads and customer service will be worthless. However, there is a full site with info and updates available. I found great info at: [...]
This visual guide helped too: [...]
-1. Go to [...] and register (top right corner) to establish an account. I received confirmation in my email (junk folder)
-2. Go back to [...] and login with the account you created. Navigate to the "product register" tab on the right. Input your info (the product type is Creader VIII, serial number is on back of tool, and password is found found on scan tool (power up with USB) navigate to: Help-Tool Info -Register Code
---make a note of the version information in the "Tool Info" page. This should change after the update. I took a before pic with my cell phone---
-3. Once tool is registered you can download the update utility and files (tab on the right). I downloaded all files except JPISUZU (it is in Chinese only, not useful to me) and saved them in a new folder on my computer.
-4. I extracted all files (right click on file, extract all). I searched through the extracted files and opened "Creader Update Setup. exe" file. This will install the required program and downloader.
-5. Remove SD card from scan tool, place in USB adapter and plug in to computer.
-6. Launch the card reader program you just installed and enter wequired information, click update. input password you created during registration. Select desired files and click download (I selected all). When download completes (mine took several minutes) eject the USB reader and re-install SD card in tool.
-7. Power tool up with USB. If everything went well you should see and update screen. "OK" the update and wait.
VOILA, updated Creader VIII.
Good Luck and happy scanning :-)
Used it this morning to identify a bad rear brake sensor, and then clear the code after replacement. Worked fine.
Would give 5 stars if it came with an Operator's Manual.
BTW, Launch makes both the USA version of this scanner (CRP-129) and the Creader V-III. I found a CE compliance certificate on-line that clearly shows they build both, and many more. The 129 is marketed through a US company “LAUNCH” to Snap-on, Mac, etc. with a very high price ($599 list). The Creader is their "Global" model and priced much, much, much less. For the same product. I really wanted to support the US Importer, but come-on... Then there appears to be Launch 129 scanners that can’t be registered through Launch USA as the serial numbers have been altered. Perhaps they were meant for yet another market outside the USA. Check to make sure the serial numbers all match when you get it. If not, I’d send it back.
My only concern is the registration process that you do to get access to the download files (firmware and vehicle specific ones). You enter the device serial number and another code unique to your scanner - making it possible to limit your access to future updates. It's not an immediate concern, as I have the vehicle files for all of my existing vehicles, but it appears that the manufacturer could easily "expire" your ability to download files in the future if they chose to.
I purchased this because it has the capability to read ABS & PCM modules as well as the ECM, and has coverage for a very wide variety of cars, including my Jaguar.
The connecting cable is plenty long for most uses. The color screen doesn't do much to enhance the unit as the only thing in color is the charting line.
I would not likely buy it again because with a $20 OBD2 bluetooth sending device and your phone with $3 anyone can download OBD Car Doctor ,a program that does as well, plus sends results to your email, saves, records for hours and is very easy to read.
