Love this book for several reasons
1. Uses African cultures and legends - the writer definitely did research. It was nice to read a book where magic and legends are real that wasn't based on European and North American legends.
2. Strong female protagonist - I loved her. She was strong and flawed and ambitious and loyal and conflicted and unsure and bold. She was beautifully written and her progress through the story is realistic and authentic and fun.
3. Great pacing - The author maintains tension and interest throughout the story.
4. The secondary characters are also interesting and well handled. I love her mother who is so strong and completely unapologetic for her choices even in the face of family disapproval.

My only complaint would be it has several grammatical and word errors but they're not too often and the characters and story are good enough that they didn't bother me too much.

I read this book before - in the Dark Ages when I attended middle school. It was a tattered, worn copy, donated to our library, and I lost track of it. Fast forward to September 2015, and I stumble on it at a conference. Even met the amazing author. Started reading it again, and it kept me glued. Lee writes amazing action - the fight scenes are something I am able to see in my brain without confusion. The world she creates is absolutely beautifully done. Never was my suspension of disbelief disrupted. The plot is epic and yet you feel the almost impossibility of success (something many authors have not conquered), yet the sheer will and drive of the characters - their desperation- is so well done that you know and understand their choices. Really, really LOVE this book. I plan on reading everything I can of Killough's that I can grab.

Set in a time when the Sahara grew green and a world where shamanic powers and demons are real, The Leopard's Daughter tells the story of Jeneba, a girl born to a human mother and leopard-man father. Her search for justice and acceptance takes her across a prehistoric world full of diverse tribes, strange magics, and other long-lost wonders. As she learns to accept her unique origins and gifts, she meets several interesting characters struggling with their own problems. With so many pseudo-medieval European fantasies retelling the "chosen boy saves the world" idea, it was nice to read something different, especially with a strong female protagonist who doesn't waste her time brooding. Very enjoyable all around!

The Leopard's Daughter is a story about 4 people on a quest to find not only a magical object but more importantly their ways of living with who they really are. I found the book engaging and one of the better pieces of fiction I've read in a while, regretting each night when I got too tired to continue reading. It reads smoothly and I found it very easy to empathize with the characters and slip into the story, a story that left me feeling uplifted by the camaraderie depicted and the progress the main character makes in coming to terms with her leopard lineage and the qualities that gives her - a lineage that she has spent her life being scorned for. A good book for light reading.
