4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Mature and Deep, without sacrificing edge 17 de abril de 2012

It's great to have new music from Candlebox! Like their 2008 album, Into the Sun, I can't seem to stop listening to Love Stories and Other Musings. The songs are melodic, engaging, and have memorable, emotive lyrics - all without sacrificing the band's rock edge. What's really impressive is that Candlebox has evolved from an also-ran in 1990s Seattle - excellent alternative rock, but outmaneuvered by their peers and collateral damage during grunge's decline - to a band that, after breaking up, and then re-forming years later, is making some of the best rock of these last few years. I'm also impressed by the change in style: the rock still rocks, but is bluesier, and the lyrics are oriented more toward romance, sex, and politics - concrete, coherent themes - and less abstract than their 90s work. These, I think, are great changes.

This being said, the album could have used a few more originals - the re-recordings of the band's classic songs sound great, but their presence strikes me as a commercial ploy: Sell more albums and attract interest in the band's new material by reminding today's listeners of the glory days. I respect the strategy (after all, Candlebox has to compete with a whole new generation of bands for attention), but ten or twelve originals, and 2-3 re-recordings, would have made the album seem more complete.
5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Baby Love Me is my favorite so far 15 de noviembre de 2014

I have been a Candlebox fan since the first album, which I received for Christmas 20 years ago. I've never quite been sure why they haven't been more popular. Every album is rock solid, and this one is no exception. The first nine songs are the new ones, and there are some absolute gems here. Baby Love Me is my favorite so far. Super catchy, slow in spots, but builds to a rocking chorus. Most of the new songs are catchy enough they rotate through my head when I'm not listening to the CD. They would all fit in seamlessly on Into the Sun. As for the five re-recorded songs, they're not different enough that I really understand why they bothered to re-record them. But they're all good songs and it's nice to hear them again, so I won't take off points for including them.

If you're a Candlebox fan, this album is right on par with all of their other stuff. If you're not, you should give this a listen. It might hook you. This is just good rock and roll.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Solid Release 5 de abril de 2012

I think a lot of what the guy who gave these 3 stars said was logical. I like better than Lucy, but sure it is quite as good as others, and yes, Into the Sun was great. The Cd could have had a few more original songs as it is not like the songs are super long. But you know what, many say Slayer's Angel of Death is one of greatest thrash cds, and yet that clocks in like a 1/2 hr. The CD also could be heavier or more instrumental like Breathe Me In, but there are a few that do rock out.

But with all the said, I think all the new songs are good. Not a bad track on here and some real good ones. I think Kevin sounds great, but then again he always does. The more I keep cranking this out, the one I like it. I guess it sounds like a more mature Candlebox in some respects. And in the rock world, this is honestly one of the best things out there. I'm usually happy with 3-5 good songs on a cd and I got 9, plus reversions of some classics. Great CD

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Great Music 10 de abril de 2012

Although this cd is not as hard as their early releases (which I really enjoy), I believe the overall quality of the music with this release and Into The Sun is higher. I don't believe Love Stories is as strong as Into The Sun but all of the new songs are solid and many of them great. Unfortunately I don't believe that the harder songs are standouts except for "Believe In It" but some of the slower/melodic tracks like "Sweet Summertime", "Baby Love Me", and "Them Eyes" are tremendous. My only complaint is the re-recording of the old tracks which basicallly sound the same to me. It would have been nice to get acoustic renditions of those songs or a couple more new tracks instead. I would imagine that most who read this review are well aware of Kevin's side project with the Gracious Few. If not, you should checkout their first release from 2010 - very solid as well.

Awesome!!!!! Their debut was one of my fave albums of all time and always listen to them...When I heard they would be releasing a new one,I was excited...It's been about 4 years since their last release,Into The Sun...They are one of those bands,if gone for several years, would come back and it would seem they were never gone,at least to me.Nine new songs and 5 classic songs, redone. Not much different from the originals, but having that extra umph!!!! If you have enjoyed them from the beginning, there is no way you should skip this release. You won't be disappointed and will be hooked. Get it now!!!!!!!
