There is much more to the Hubbards and Bells than the invention of the telephone.
How many languages could Mabel Hubbard speak? Did she enjoy music? How did Mabel's children discover she was deaf? How did Alexander and Mabel meet? What were the challenges in Alexander and Mabel faced early in their courtship? How close did Bell come to giving up on the phone? What were his obstacles? How did Alexander want to be remembered? What were the investors really looking for? How did the Bell and Hubbard families interact with the other inventors of their day? What impact did the Bells have on Helen Keller and many others?
Most importantly, though, this biography reveals that the deaf can be taught to read lips successfully and to converse. Mabel interacted with husband, children, guests, and even crowds of people so effectively that those who knew her often forgot her handicap. A very encouraging biography, indeed!
