In my quest to find the perfect purple ink, I stumbled upon this gem. It's a very elegant and warm shade of brown. I inked up my MB 149 that has a very wet medium nib and was astounded by the dynamic look of the lines. To my eye, it has a marked coppery look to it with a large red/orange component, however it is still brown. The shading is amazing, going from a caramel light tone transitioning to a dark coffee/chocolate color. It flows very well, and is on the wet side. I get great performance out of it in all the pens I tried; Pens used: MB 149 (M), MB 146 (EF), Pelikan M1000 (EF), Omas Paragon (EF). Very good flow, cleans easily despite moderate saturation, and does not feather/bleed on most papers used (Rhodia, Clairefontaine, Tomoe River, and standard cheap no-name copy paper. Very happy with this ink and among my favorites next to Lavender Purple, Irish Green, and the Permanent Black.
I can't be certain because the MB date seal was broken.
If you are using a Mont Blanc fountain pen to begin with, and take the trouble to seek out their ink, I doubt you will want to do as I did, by failing to choose your ink supplier with equal care. Not only was the Ink shipped by INKNLEAD shipped in a flimsy paper box, - not cardboard, paper,- but it had inadequate tape on it. That's not me saying it's inadequate it's the US Postal Service, which had to add more tape en route.
So buy the Ink, you will like it, especially if you use your Mont Blanc Fountain pen infrequently, but choose your supplier more carefully than I did.
The ink does fall down on copy paper, where it does have pronounced feathering, bleed, and showthrough on a fairly dry fine waterman hemisphere, but on good paper it has great manners.
I also love the box and the bottle this ink comes in. The bottle is heavy glass, shaped very cleverly for filling any pen down to the last few drops, and the cap is heavy, secure, and the fit and finish of the bottle is just excellent. I think I like this bottle more than any other ink I've bought, it's a work of art.
The value is also quite fair, too. 60ml is an above average amount and $20 is right on par with the amazon price of iroshizuku, which only comes in 50ml (with a possibly equally nice bottle)
I think I'm definitely going to be buying more mont blanc colors. Even if it's not a great writer on bad paper, there are other inks that handle the job (for a similar color, I suggest noodlers black swan in australian roses)
A great buy and a great value.
