Installation for the thing was pretty straightforward - you open the panel, pop out the placeholder, pop in the fan, and hook it up to the fan controller. The problem that I am currently blanking on is that this is an LED fan much like the pack-in one, and I cannot for the life of me find somewhere on the motherboard or the fan controller to plug in the LED light through. There is a clear place for the first one, but this 2-pin male plug seems to be one of a kind. I can't seem to find any information about it on the original case's manual either.
So, no LED light currently, but the fan is still working as intended - powered up fine and has noticeably reduced the temperature of the hardware running inside, so I can't really complain. I would really like to be able to have that second LED light up at some point, but it's ultimately unimportant if the fan is cooling the case.
They are well constructed, fit perfect, operate well, look great, are nearly silent, and the power and LED wires are coated with a thick insulated material, which is a very nice feature, though not needed for my setup since I have a full-size tower with lots of room, the E-ATX, multiple SLI, liquid cooling and plethora of fans, notwithstanding. A very nice feature that the original, and still efficiently operating, NZXT 200MM fan lacks. The blue hue of all my NZXT LED fans, though purchased at different times, are identical in color. It's a great product with which I am very pleased. Definitely recommended for NZXT cases.
The fans don't auto light, there is a switch. I pushed mine on and left it, these you can switch on and off as you like. The switch looks to be a simple push on/off switch and even come with adapters to fit two fans to one switch.
I think it looks great.
But have two quarrels with this, one of which is not directly related to the fan itself:
1. The fan fits perfectly fine as a side fan. However, the screws that come with it are completely worthless. They do not fit into the side of the case. You actually need four screws that came with the case when you bought it. I had to find a youtube video of someone installing a case fan to figure that out. Yes, I had to watch a video to figure out how to install a simple case fan. The video also mentioned that the filter that comes on the side of the Phantom does not fit along with the fan. This is not true , as I was able to get them both on there. I'm decking a star for the simple fact that NZXT didn't include the proper screws for those of us who are using the fan for THEIR case. I only got lucky because I happened to keep the little box of screws and stuff when I got my case.
2. The fan will NOT fit on the side of the Phantom if you're using a Corsair H60 and have a push/pull setup. The fan will juuuuuuuust barely hit the 2nd fan. I'd imagine this will be the case with many radiator liquid coolers that are in push/pull setups. This isn't NZXT's fault, so I'm just leaving it as a for warning. I noticed though, that if you yank one of the fans, it'll cool better overall since this fan will (in theory) be pulling cooler air into the case.
