It truly does transform the D7000 from a great camera into an awesome camera. Sure, it doesn't change the functionality, but it does improve the handling and feel of the camera. I have average hands, but even so, I found that (without the grip) my pinkie finger didn't feel comfortable on the D7000. Adding the grip totally changed that. The grip gives extra space for your fingers and creates a boundary that gives your hand a limit so it can't slip off. It makes the camera super easy to pick up and go.
As far as the extra weight is concerned, now that I've used the grip for a while, I don't even notice the extra weight. I think it's just something you have to get used to. In fact my wife also uses my new D7000 and she has no problems with the grip either. Also, the extra controls on the grip are so handy when taking portrait/vertical shots. It really helps with the ergonomics of the camera. It's a great addition to an amazing camera. I'd highly recommend this to anyone wanting a more comfortable experience with their D7000.
Anyways the grip arrived 4 days early! That's really good if you ask me. The box arrived in perfect condition. The grip itself was also flawless.
The main reason why I bought this grip is because I like to shoot with primes. So I usually just carry two bodies around with me. I wasn't going to buy a second grip for my other D7000 because these grips used to sell for $250+ a few years ago. But when I saw that Adorama was selling these for $169 I said screw it and bought myself an early Christmas present.
If you ask me I think Nikon should be selling all of their grips for $169. They ask $350 for their newer grips which is ridiculous if you ask me.
Overall I'm very happy with this purchase. I got a brand new OEM grip for a really good deal. I have no intention of up grading anytime soon which means I'll get my money's worth out of this grip.
The grip does add significant weight so I only use it when I am going out for serious shooting. I take it off if I am going to just carry the camera around all day to save some strain on my neck.
It does make the camera look more professional, not that I care about that anymore. When I used to shoot as a pro I used to use high end amatuer equipment and apperance is important to the clients.
