To my surprise, when receiving the Nonstick Vertical Poultry Roaster and using it for the first time, I placed my whole chicken on it to first allow it to air dry; I then realized that there is a big difference between the Norpro Stainless Steel Vertical Poultry Roaster and the Norpro Nonstick Vertical Poultry Roaster. The Nonstick has a much narrower top and therefore given no support for the whole chicken. Instead of disregarding the Nonstick Vertical Poultry Roaster, I just used the stainless steel prongs on the nonstick base since there were both made by the same company and the dish was the same size.
I am very creative and will not give up, the next time I am going to turn the whole chicken upside down so the breast will be toward the bottom, then tie up the legs so they don't flop to the side and create any mess from the chicken fat in the Convection oven. Hopefully this will allow the juices to flow into the breast, although, I always brine all my poultry prior roasting or putting them on the rotisserie.
My desire is that the vendor would be a little more descriptive about the different products to avoid such surprises. I must also take part of the blame since I should have pulled out my Norpro Stainless Steel Vertical Poultry Roaster and compared it to the picture that is posted by the item on Amazon.
In closing, I find vertical roasting and the use of the rotisserie produces a much healthier meal, since the chicken releases fatty oil along with its juices; but with the vertical roaster the chicken is not laying in the juice and oil. Also the vertical roaster allows the chicken skin to become nicely browned and crunchy. Of course, I always use a thermometer probe to make sure the inner temperature is accurate and thoroughly roasted to 180 degrees. Again if the chicken is brined, you will have a nice moist roasted chicken.
I hope this review encourages you to purchase (for start) the Norpro Stainless Steel Vertical Poultry Roaster. Vertical roasting is a much healthier form of baking a whole chicken.
