5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Video and Sounds works on Macbook Pro 13 Mid 2010 30 de junio de 2010

Bought this worried that the audio would not work, and I can confirm that sound and video both works with this adapter. I am using the latest Macbook Pro 13 with Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz, the mid 2010, model MC374LL/A. Once connected, the macbook will auto detect your tv and will show both monitors. Just go to system preference, sound, output, and select your TV as the output for the sound. You will then have audio and video on your TV. You could also mirror the screen to the TV and assign the video output for the TV to 1080p, under system preference, displays.

Working great so far!

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Good product but beware which seller you are getting from 3 de diciembre de 2010

First of all beware buyers, do not buy from the seller ELMENOS if you want a Mini DisplayPort with HDMI with working video AND AUDIO support, I have read all the negative reviews where people said they are not getting audio from their TVs and such. It is because ELMENOS, one out of the several sellers, are selling the Mini DisplayPorts with no AUDIO support. I was; however, lucky enough to order from BargainCell which sent the correct Mini DisplayPort to HDMI that is displayed in the picture. However, my friend who I referred to buy this adapter also bought this item from ELMENOS and they sent him a different adapter than what was displayed in the picture. When he emailed ELMENOS, the seller told him he bought the wrong item, and it does not come with audio support and referred him to a more expensive Mini DisplayPort. All in all I am very happy with my purchase from BargainCell which provided me with AUDIO and VIDEO on my 2010 Macbook Pro; however, my friend is not. It seems that there are many sellers for the same item and when I sent my friend the link to the item I purchased, Amazon randomly shuffles the seller who are listed as selling the same product when it is now obvious that they are not..

Bottomline: BargainCell has the Mini Displayport with Audio Support and ELMENOS does not because they send you a different item then on the picture displayed.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Works perfectly with audio 6 de diciembre de 2012

I received this product two days ago, hooked it to my 2012 Macbook pro and got instant audio and display. At first I wasn't able to get the audio to work but I followed these directions from a website and worked perfectly.
DisplayPort to HDMI Sound is actually set up by using the MIDI setup utility found in :

Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup.

If you purchased an iWires cable direct from Apple the instructions are in the printed booklet that comes in the packaging. Most people don't read this as it's normally the case that when you plug a cable in to anything it just works (VCR, TiVo, Xbox, video camera etc). In this instance Apple are failing to live up to their catch-phrase as final setup is NOT intuitive; "it just DOESN'T work".

The booklet instructions basically say do the following,

Video

System Preferences > Displays. There are 3 tabs in the window; Displays, Arrangement and Color. Be sure you are on the Displays tab. Bottom left of the window tick "Show displays in menu bar" and then bottom right click "Detect Displays".

Now click on the tab named Arrangement. Bottom left of the window tick "Mirror Displays".

You should now only see 2 tabs, Display and Color. Be sure you are on the Displays tab. Select the desired resolution for your TV (probably 1080i). leave all other settings at their default values.

Sound

System Preferences > Sound. There are 3 tabs in the window; Sound Effects, Output and Input. Be sure you are on the Sound Effects tab. Middle of the window select your TV where it says "Play sound effects through:".

Select the middle tab named Output.

Select your TV from the drop-down list next to HDMI, below where it says "Select a device for sound output".

Using either Finder or Launchpad go to Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup.

On the left-hand side of the window you should now see HDMI. In the middle of the window, on the Output tab, where it says "Source:" select your TV from the drop-down list.

This last action below is NOT described in the iWires notes but was required in my case, it may also be required in yours. If you CANNOT see a speaker icon next to HDMI in the list on the left, do the following:

Bottom left of the window select the wheel icon with the down-pointing triangle. Make sure that sound output is selected and that you can now see a speaker icon next to HDMI in the list of devices.

If you still cannot hear sound, log out of your account and then log back in.

You will now have sound coming out of your TV from your computer

You may have to do some or all of the above to get sound out of your TV from your computer using the DisplayPort to HDMI cable. On my Aug 2011 MacbookPro I had to do ALL of the above. If you take your laptop to a different TV you will have to do it all again so be warned.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Revaluation--no need to spend more 31 de mayo de 2011

[After using this again, I'm afraid I'll have to retract my review below and raise my rating. I think I was predisposed to calling the Kanex the better bet because: 1. it looks cooler; 2. it's obviously better constructed; 3. it comes in nice packaging with complete specs; 4. it cost me 5-6 times more than the pictured generic adapter. However, after trying this plain jane again, I can't see any evidence of the visual superiority of the Kanex. And since Apple claims their next OS is capable of mirroring a computer's desktop onto your big HD screen wirelessly, it simply doesn't make any sense to spend any more on a min-display adapter. This $5 generic model and the $30 designer brand may look night and day, but they perform equally well, either one providing a bright, sharp, hi-def image with hi-fi sound--monaural, stereo, or multi-channel. So you may as well save the extra $25 and invest it in the new operating system with the wireless desktop mirror display. For the time being, the pictured adapter will do you just fine.]

My original review:

I used this a couple of times with mixed results. The connection required frequent attention and re-adjusting, the centering of the display from my Mac Air was a tenuous proposition, and, upon removal, the original display of the large screen was disproportionate. So I spent a bit more on the purchase of the Kanex iAdapt HDMI V2, which not only comes in a clearly labeled box (including complete specs) but is clearly better constructed--from the components of the cable to the transformer itself. The enclosure of the latter, moreover, is twice the size of the pictured generic unit, allowing sufficient room for small but intricate circuitry. Not only did the Kanex function more smoothly and efficiently but it gave me the extra confidence that any lecturer-demonstrator desires when using a computer to project visual information on a large screen before an expectant public audience.

If all you plan to do is play games on your TV set, etc., this item (1/4 the price of the Kanex) is probably up to the task. Be alerted that you'll receive a very plain-looking adapter in cellophane, with nary a marking let alone specs or instructions in sight.
3.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Flakey connection on the mini DisplayPort end 5 de noviembre de 2012

I began a search for a mini Display Port to HDMI adapter and ended up purchasing this product.

It seemed that all the adapters from all manufacturers were getting lots of poor ratings, no matter the price. Since prices were ranging from under 4 dollars to over 35 dollars, I decided to start at the low end.

I ordered two of these adapter cables. They were shipped direct from Hong Kong and that was amazing to me that the cables could be as inexpensive as they were plus include free shipping. The cables arrived about a week later and I immediately opened one of them and began using it.

Out of the box it worked right away. I was happy. After an hour of watching some streaming videos, I moved my laptop slightly and in doing so the adapter cable also moved. As soon as the cable started to be flexed by the movement, the signal to the HDTV was disrupted and lost. I gently moved the display port connector end of the cable and the connection to the HDTV was restored. But clearly the adapter cable had some sort of loose connection inside it causing this intermittent connection.

I think it's good practice not to have cables like this being flexed or moved while they are in use, but they should certainly be able to withstand a very minor movement, such as if you were merely sliding the laptop a few inches to re-position it.

I have been using the adapter on and off for a week or so and it has intermittently lost its connection several more times. I contacted the company through Amazon seller feedback and they responded promptly, but in broken English, explaining that the cable should work. I asked for a refund and they complied with no hassle at all. I was not required to send the cables back either.

Bottom line is that the cable worked for me but intermittently. I did not overly stress or flex the cable at any time. For the price it's worth a shot I guess. I'd much rather spend under 5 bucks for an adapter cable that doesn't work that well than 34 bucks for a "better" adapter that also garners lots of low ratings. It's kind of frustrating actually.

I'm not really sure how to rate this adapter. It does work but intermittently. Customer service was excellent. So I'l rating the overall experience 3-stars. It's OK. Your mileage may vary. By the way, my seller was C-Teck.
