The Otterbox makes the phone MUCH more bulky, which is to be expected since the Thunderbolt was already a beast of a phone. But the real downside to it is the screen on the case. It's aweful. I don't know what Otterbox was thinking, but the screen is not snug at all, leaving a space between the protective film and the Thunderbolt's screen. What this does is allow dirt to get inside to where you have to take the Otterbox off DAILY in order to clean the screen. Even worse, it severely limits my typing speed as I'm no longer touching the screen without a small lag as the protective film pops up and down. This causes my texting to take longer and it's just annoying. I understand the Thunderbolt's screen is large and it would be hard to manufacture the correct protective screen, but by looking at the Otterbox myself, I can already think of several ways this could have been improved.
One other annoyance for me is the kickstand. I use the kickstand daily while I'm at work. The case makes the phone extra bulky in the back which actually limits the kickstand's ability to withstand small bumps. If I move my headphones and the phone slightly moves it now falls over. All in all, I give the Otterbox a 3 out of 5, because it does do its job in protecting the phone, but the screen protector almost kills it for me. I wish I could recommend another case, but this is the best one for the Thunderbolt in my opinion. It will have to do.
You can charge the phone while it is in the belt clip, but when using dash-mounted car holders, it becomes a little difficult with the bulky nature of the silicone case. The charger cover is easy to open and close, but the headphone jack cover is a little more difficult to get open. Luckily, the Thunderbolt allows for stereo bluetooth headphones, so you may not need to use the jack that often.
I like that it has a built-in screen guard, but I would recommend leaving or putting on a regular screen guard before putting it in the Otter Box. Dust and dirt can get behind the case's guard and scratch your screen. The two layers of screen protection does mess a little with the touch screen, but not much (some buttons are a little slower to respond but can be corrected with a screen calibration).
This is a very durable case and well worth the money spent on it. I've been looking for a case for this phone since I bought it in April and this is the first one I've found that I really like despite the size.
Next, the case itself, which is made of great material, but doesn't fit together right! By that I mean, the case snaps together and fits the phone fine, but if you hold the phone in your hand with the case on, and squeeze it, you can hear the plastic creaking and squeaking where there must be extra space. It makes the case feel really cheap, and this bothered me a lot.
Next, the belt clip. If you like to switch between a landscape belt clip and up and down in public, don't even think about it with this case! Rotating the clip on this case sounds something like some horrid mini gattling gun. It's VERY loud, and can make people jump if you do it in a quiet room. Using it as a stand is useless as well. You can push the clip in so it sticks and stays open, like a prop, but it's difficult to take it out of this position, and it snaps and sometimes hurts your fingers. The prop is mostly useless anyway as the angle does nothing. You might as well just lay the phone flat and watch a movie or use it's built in prop. It's cheap feeling compared to other belt clips I've used.
In the end, I switched back to my Sedio Rugged case, very disappointed with my OtterBox. Will never buy from this brand again unless it's for iPhone as it seems this is the only phone OtterBox knows how to make a case for, or really cares about.
