3.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Not Otterbox's best 3 de agosto de 2011

I bought my wife an Otterbox for her Iphone and it is amazing. She has dropped the phone several times and it's withstood everything. It fit nice and snug and looked like it belong with the phone. A few month's later I decided to buy myself an HTC Thunderbolt. I love the phone (except for the battery life), but told myself I'd wait until the Otterbox came out for it before I protected it. The time finally came and I ordered it from Amazon. Now on to the review...

The Otterbox makes the phone MUCH more bulky, which is to be expected since the Thunderbolt was already a beast of a phone. But the real downside to it is the screen on the case. It's aweful. I don't know what Otterbox was thinking, but the screen is not snug at all, leaving a space between the protective film and the Thunderbolt's screen. What this does is allow dirt to get inside to where you have to take the Otterbox off DAILY in order to clean the screen. Even worse, it severely limits my typing speed as I'm no longer touching the screen without a small lag as the protective film pops up and down. This causes my texting to take longer and it's just annoying. I understand the Thunderbolt's screen is large and it would be hard to manufacture the correct protective screen, but by looking at the Otterbox myself, I can already think of several ways this could have been improved.

One other annoyance for me is the kickstand. I use the kickstand daily while I'm at work. The case makes the phone extra bulky in the back which actually limits the kickstand's ability to withstand small bumps. If I move my headphones and the phone slightly moves it now falls over. All in all, I give the Otterbox a 3 out of 5, because it does do its job in protecting the phone, but the screen protector almost kills it for me. I wish I could recommend another case, but this is the best one for the Thunderbolt in my opinion. It will have to do.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Great item to protect my phone! 20 de junio de 2011

I love otterbox products and this one is no exception. I really like how they have a built in screen protector and how it has a protective case then the rubber fits on the outside of that. snaps together easily and the case fits snuggly so that it doesn't come undone or bubbles out. I have a otterbox case also for my ipod touch 4g which works extremely well. These tend to be a bit more expensive but it is well worth it considering what your protecting is far more expensive. Great product would highly recommend. Keep in mind the thunderbolt is a big phone to begin with and adding the case can make it bulky (the case comes with a holder to attach to pants but I don't use it for that since it pulls way to much on my pants I use it to snap it to my purse. The rubber is not a sticky rubber so if you can stick in pants pockets it won't collect lint like my old phone protectors did. it's very smooth wish it came in other colors though! my ipod touch is pink lol so going back to black is kinda boring but oh well it works so i'm happy!

I may have gotten spoiled from my last phone which was one that could be submerged in up to 10' of water and be dropped 10' and had a screen made of gorrilla glass that was unscratchable. I switched phones wanting something with 4g service and was told that the otterbox would protect it like my old phone. After i got the otterbox the first thing i noticed was it wasn't waterproof, in fact it has a big slot in the screen to allow the speaker to be heard. This slot not only allows water, but dirt to enter which gets between the otterbox screen and the phone screen and just grinds a mess of scratches on both screens.I think a series of small holes would be better than the large gap, at least to help keep the dirt out. I guess you can buy a replacement screen for both but i can't afford to continually do that. Also the rubber cover on the back doesn't stay connected to the face and find myself continually trying to press it back together. I'm not sure if i'm doing more damage to my phone with it on or if i'd be better off with just a screen protector. My wife has a screen protector and an otterbox but i find it hard to see thru all the plastics. I think for someone with a desk job, OK, but if you play in the outdoors or have to work in the rain, not such a good product. Hope this will help design a better cover?

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Bulky, yet durable 29 de septiembre de 2011

I went for the Otter Box case because it looked to be the slimmest silicone-wrapped case available for the Thunderbolt, but after putting it on my phone, I realized it was much bigger than I thought. However, the bulk does add some extra grip to an already large and heavy phone. The plastic belt clip looks like it could hold a laptop when you don't have the phone clipped in to it, and with the phone clipped in, it looks like you're walking around with a tablet strapped to your belt. I do like the multiple mount options for the belt clip and the heavy duty clip on the back that can do a full 360 rotate. It also has a lock feature that if you snag your phone on something, the clip will spring a certain distance back, then lock so you don't have to worry about breaking it.

You can charge the phone while it is in the belt clip, but when using dash-mounted car holders, it becomes a little difficult with the bulky nature of the silicone case. The charger cover is easy to open and close, but the headphone jack cover is a little more difficult to get open. Luckily, the Thunderbolt allows for stereo bluetooth headphones, so you may not need to use the jack that often.

I like that it has a built-in screen guard, but I would recommend leaving or putting on a regular screen guard before putting it in the Otter Box. Dust and dirt can get behind the case's guard and scratch your screen. The two layers of screen protection does mess a little with the touch screen, but not much (some buttons are a little slower to respond but can be corrected with a screen calibration).

This is a very durable case and well worth the money spent on it. I've been looking for a case for this phone since I bought it in April and this is the first one I've found that I really like despite the size.

First off, the screen protector built into this case is HORRIBLE. I had bought this case because I'd seen it on an iPhone, and the screen protector was unnoticeable and snug to the screen. However this is NOT the case on the Thunderbolt. The screen protector sits a good centimeter or 2 off the screen, and creeks when you try to touch the screen. You can see the indent when you touch the screen and you have to use noticeably more pressure to get the screen to responde. There is also a gap where the speaker is, and this lets dust and dirt under the screen protector, which inevitably scratches your screen and you have to take the case off to clean it. This drove me CRAZY! To the point where I ripped the screen protector off (It's only held on by some cheap glue and comes off easily if you pull it off from the inside).

Next, the case itself, which is made of great material, but doesn't fit together right! By that I mean, the case snaps together and fits the phone fine, but if you hold the phone in your hand with the case on, and squeeze it, you can hear the plastic creaking and squeaking where there must be extra space. It makes the case feel really cheap, and this bothered me a lot.

Next, the belt clip. If you like to switch between a landscape belt clip and up and down in public, don't even think about it with this case! Rotating the clip on this case sounds something like some horrid mini gattling gun. It's VERY loud, and can make people jump if you do it in a quiet room. Using it as a stand is useless as well. You can push the clip in so it sticks and stays open, like a prop, but it's difficult to take it out of this position, and it snaps and sometimes hurts your fingers. The prop is mostly useless anyway as the angle does nothing. You might as well just lay the phone flat and watch a movie or use it's built in prop. It's cheap feeling compared to other belt clips I've used.

In the end, I switched back to my Sedio Rugged case, very disappointed with my OtterBox. Will never buy from this brand again unless it's for iPhone as it seems this is the only phone OtterBox knows how to make a case for, or really cares about.
