This single CD called “Our Language of Love”, released by Flare Records from UK in 2011, contains two complete albums by Jane Morgan: “The Second Time Around” and “Love Makes the World Go ‘Round” plus 4 bonus tracks. 1 This is the first time the above two albums are released as one set, containing many singles, some making their CD debut. “The Second Time Around” is available separately as part of twofer (Sepia Records 1176, 2011), while “Love Makes The World Go ‘Round” is available as a single CD release (Hallmark Records, 2012).
2 The 4 bonus tracks are songs from two albums listed above.
3 The sound is very good.
4 There is a 6-page booklet, with an informative essay by Tony Middleton. The two album front covers are featured on the front of the booklet.
1 Label & number, and chart position are not included.
2 The two front album covers are too small. They should each occupy the entire page, like Real Gone Music.
Jane Morgan was born Florence Currier on December 25, 1920 in Newton, Massachusetts. She has a beautiful singing voice, and her many singles like “With Open Arms”, “Romantica” (both very popular in Far East), “Fascination” and “Happy Anniversary” are one of my all-time favourite tunes. I am in the process of collecting as many albums on CDs. The entire set is totally enjoyable, and is a welcome addition to my library to complete my Jane Morgan collection. If you like Jane Morgan, these are two great albums and this set is highly recommended.
Jane was prolific in the studios, especially at Kapp where, between 1956 and 1968, they released no less than 17 albums covering her music. She also had three come out from Colpix between 1963 and 1966, four for Columbia's subsidiary Epic in 1965/66, one for ABC in 1968, two for RCA Victor in 1969/70, and one for Harmony in 1970.
Some of these, as illustrated here, have made their way into CD format, but nice as it is to see her music so well-covered, for those of us who seek out hit singles - those songs that got the artists heard on the radio and in juke boxes, not to mention record sales - find it impossible to locate all those registered by Jane Morgan in one compact disc. And with 12 in total (she had 5 make the Billboard Pop charts and another 7 the Adult Contemporary (AC) charts that came into being in 1961), compiling these along with their B-sides (two of her B-sides were by other artists) shouldn't be all that onerous a task. We're looking at no more than a 22-track album here!
The only one that comes close is, from all places, Curb (Jane Morgan - Greatest Hits) which provides all 5 Kapp Pop hits (original versions too, which they don't always do), but none of the flipsides, nor do they include any of her AC hits. You have to go to the Jasmine 2-CD set Fascination - The Ultimate Collection to find the French version of The Day The Rains Came (Le jour ou la pluie viendra), but that's the only B-side they offer, nor do they include her two 1959 Kapp hits, With Open Arms and Happy Anniversary and their B-sides, not to mention any of the AC entries. In fact the flips of her last two hits for Kapp - I Can't Begin To Tell You and C'est la vie, c'est l'amour - are not to be found in any compilation, not even as bonus tracks.
A Collectables release pulling together two more of her LPs - In My Style/Fresh Flavor (both done for Epic) - contains two of her AC hits and their B-sides - Side By Side (# 25 AC in late 1965) b/w Til I Waltz Again With You, and Elusive Butterfly (# 9 AC in Oct 1966) b/w Good Lovin' - but that's it as far as I can see. Nowhere will you find on CD 1-2-3 (# 16 AC/# 135 Hot 100 Bubble Under) and its B-side, Kiss Away (Epic 10032), Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye (Capri c'est fini) - # 30 AC/# 121 Hot 100 Bubble Under in Jan 1967 and its flip, Now And Forever (Epic 10113), Somebody, Someplace (# 24 AC in Oct 1967) b/w This Is My world Without You (ABC 10969), I Promise You (# 27 AC in Dec 1967) b/w Him's A Dope (ABC 11002), and A Child (# 39 AC in April 1968) b/w My Funny Valentine (ABC 11054).
This CD collects two incredible albums from Jane, "The Second Time Around" and "Love Makes The World Go Round", that have never been on CD before. Both albums are just beautiful and Jane delivers every song in her unique and amazing style.
Flare has done a great job on this release and hopefully this will just be the first of many more releases from them for the immensely talented and beautiful Jane Morgan.
