Bought this and two spare batteries as a company mascot. Flew it around indoors until the dog was no longer afraid of it.

Once outside, elevated it about 10 feet high in an open field, and suddenly it skied up to about 60 feet, and started to follow the wind with a mind of its own. As it departed, it raised to perhaps 120-150 feet, disappeared into a neighborhood, and that was that.

Probably not the fastest $300 I ever lost, but it ranks "up there."

This bird not ready for prime time.

Anyone need the indoor foam protector and a couple of batteries?

Computers and programming are just a few of my hobbies. When I learned that I could turn this drone into an autonomous robot with just a few lines of URBI code, I was hooked. I've had the toy for just over a week now, and I've had a blast playing with it. The first time I started it up with the command drone.launch(), I was really surprised to find it hovering 3ft off the ground behind my chair. It's auto stabilization is very good. There are lots of DIY versions of quad copters, but this is the first to come in at a commodity price. I predict that there is going to be a lot of really cool apps on the way for this toy, in fact I'm going to help make them.

My only complaint would be the limited battery life, but I'll probably just buy a backup battery.

I think this toy represents a giant step in the right direction.

As an aviation enthusiast, I thought I'd check out this toy. I've read all about the problems of RC aircraft, and helicopters in particular. So I knew from the outset that this wasn't going to be just a $300 outlay.

Pros:
=====
- Amazingly stable, intuitive interface. For sure, it takes some getting used to, but its neat and useful that the software can keep the drone hovering at a constant height hands-off. 4 axes of movement controlled via two joysticks is pretty straightforward:
** Joystick1: Forward/Back,Strafe Left/Strafe Right (or just tilt your phone in the appropriate direction)
** Joystick2: Up/Down, Yaw Left/Yaw Right
- Cameras in both front an on bottom definitely add wow-factor.
- Indoor hull means you don't shell out cash after every crash.

Cons:
=====
- Android is technically unsupported, and it took some digging to find someone who has this working.
- My 1st gen iPod Touch was having some troubles controlling it.
- Battery life is (understandably) pretty short.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Go For It... 29 de noviembre de 2010
Por PJ in RC - Publicado en Amazon.com
I've had my drone for 2 months, I have 4 hours of actual flight on the clock with no "major" problems. The only quality issues was a near flyaway caused by the ultrasonic altimeter when flying over tall grass.

I started flying indoor and it is a piece of cake to control indoor with the indoor shell. Flying outdoor with the outdoor shell can be a real blast because it is so responsive, however it can also be very challenging with even a mild wind. Mild gusts will cause it to start drifting across the ground and once it starts it won't stop until it hits something or you land.

If you order a drone, go ahead and order propellers, gears (w/shafts) and the adhesive kit. You're going to need them unless you plan to never fly outside, even then you probably will.

No one else has mentioned the adhesive kit, but I consider it ESSENTIAL. I am forced to fly in an environment with a lot of obstructions and the wind seems to work with them to attract my drone, resulting in high speed collisions with fixed objects. The adhesive is nothing more than a super thin, super sticky, double stick adhesive that you use to repair the PPE (foam) structure. I've broken the nose completely off, several times, and the repair is so strong it breaks in a new place each time.

Oh yeah, get at least 2 spare batteries, they claim 15 minutes flight time but depending on how you fly it, you will probably only get 9-13 minutes per battery.

It is an RC aircraft if you don't order parts when you buy it, you will be waiting for them shortly after you get it!

This is a nice unit. BUT Buyer beware. The company is selling this with the POTENTIAL (only) to run on android. You MUST have a seperate device IE newer laptop with win 7 to update the firmware. I tried to update it with my antiquated vista, no go, even tried with my tablet. The problem is until you update the firmware android will not talk to the device (used motorola tablet xoom). The firmware currently 1.7.4 is available for free to download from Parrot.

Parrot really should have updated their product before shipping. Bad for them and is why I only gave them 4 out 5 stars. If you cant control the machine after you have flown it and messed with the settings. Simply uninstal the flight app and reinstal (on your android device). This firmware also resolves some issues the i-phone and i-pad users are having.

Hope this helps and Happy Holidays!
