The 95/24 lenses are absolutely lovely with a heavier polarization than most light-tinted sunglasses offer - I was pleasantly surprised just how well these sunglasses cut out glare given the light tint color. Usually, lighter tinted glasses have weaker polarization so Persol must have pulled out all the stops on the glass here. Speaking of which, as is usual with Persol, the lenses are glass, not polycarbonate. They have noticeably higher acutance than my polycarbonate Ray-Banss. The lenses are photochromatic which is very very nice. The change in transmission is very well controlled and transitions seem to occur rapidly as one steps out into the sun from indoors. On the whole, I feel that photochromatic lenses are definitely more desirable than gradient lenses, achieving the same result (being able to wear them in lower light conditions, eg. shade, and still see the ground) without loosing out in harsh, strong sunlight. The tinting on these lenses is very unusual - they're a light yellowish-green. It takes a little getting used to, but once the eyes are adapted to the tinting, they work very well at enhancing colors such as the reds and oranges while still making foliage look very pretty. The tinting may not be acceptable to some people, so it's advisable to buy them in store where they can be tried out first.
The only thing I'm not thrilled about is the case that these sunglasses come with - it is rigid and solid with a nice magnetic clasp. However, it is bulky and I can't imagine putting the case in my pocket. While I'm sure the case is excellent protection for these sunglasses, making it more convenient to carry around would have been nicer.
All said and done, these are a lovely pair of sunglasses.
The 24/47 lenses are just as good as the 95/24 lenses so I won't repeat what I've already said above. Note that these are just polarized, not photochromatic-polarized. The brown tinting is very nice - it's closer to neutral than Ray-Ban brown so one doesn't get as much 'sepia tone', but warm colors are still nicely enhanced.
I'd say that if it's your first pair of Persols, get just Polarized ones. Generally the tinting is more neutral and usual. For a second or third pair, adding in the photochromatism is a great idea.
