Descripción del producto
Immerse yourself in Ancient Egypt from the age of the Great Pyramids to the final years of the New Kingdom. Govern all aspects of the exotic Egyptian culture from religion to trading with distant cities. Cultivate vast farms in the Nile valley and discover the important role this river, with its unpredictable floods, played in the life of the Egyptians. Stone by stone, erect giant monuments from the Sphinx, the Great Pyramids, the Colossi of Ramses II at Abu Simbel to the lighthouse and library of Alexandria. Battle against other ancient cultures and even against Octavian and the Romans on land or water. Be sure to interact with your citizens. Scribes, Scholars, Priests, Embalmers and more will inform you how wisely you rule. The Nile is a fickle friend. Pay careful attention to its flooding to avoid the devastating effects of drought and famine - deadly plagues.

If you have an XP or a way to run it on a different platform (it will run, just not as smoothly) by all means go for it. I'm ordering a 2nd one in case the disk gets scratched or something, and a 3rd one as a favor for one of my work coworkers that also loves this game.
The game itself, brilliant, awesome, and a good way to burn time when you've got nothing better to do, but are expecting to drop everything and go. Its a great castle/pyramid building game similar in nature to Stronghold or Majesty where you build the great Egyptian empire, fend off invaders, trade with other cities, and please the many gods for their blessings (trust me, you'll need em, especially Annubis, you a G, DarkSIIIIDE!)
Now for the bad news. When you install it, you need patches, and for some stupid reason the people who redid this nice little bundle screwed up, now it wont play at all, and the patches it needs are missing. Dont buy it unless you solve this issue. But if you see these games elsewhere like a friendly game shop, buy it.
I continued to play it over the years and as I upgraded computers over the years it continued to run flawlessly on each of my new machines even on my latest 4 year old Vista (64 bit)platform laptop (when set in XP mode). Other reviewers have mentioned that they have had trouble with the game on the newer platforms which I have not. When I put my original game disk into my Gateway gaming laptop and set it to XP all went fine. I then bought the Pharaoh Gold (twice because I lent my original out and never got it back)and again all went smoothly. The only issue I had was that the scrolling was too rapid and hard to control which was easily adjusted in the game controls.
For those looking for shoot'em up action this is not your game. Pharaoh is rather a typical city building simulation requiring little or no hand eye gaming skills. The entire game is operated via the mouse and hot keys. What combat there is involves ships and armies you must raise to defend your city and the controls for this are done with the mouse and are very basic. Even though the game is quite old it still offers quite a bit of depth to the game play and offers sandbox mode to practice different city layouts and an editor to design your own scenarios. Also, there are still many fans out there for this game and you can find allot of help and info.
on-line to assist in playing it.
Gameplay: 9/10. The setup is the same as any city building/Sim City design, with more foucs obviously on the nuts and bolts of running a city. You have to create a good balance between residence and industry, keep them close together without sacrificing appeal, and still keep enough space and people to run all of your services and buildings. And keep a good, strong armed force. A couple points fall through the cracks that are annoying, and when you stumble upon them you'd wish the game had mentioned them, but those are few and far between.
Story/Audio: 10/10. The voices of the citizens are amusing and actually very helpful in determining what your cities problems are, if any exist. The narration is accurate to time frame and history, as far as I'm aware, and follows the rise and fall of the kingdom. While it would've been nice to have more mission audio, what little there is still manages to be very entertaining.
Graphics: 7/10: Being as far along as technology is, most people will frown at these. Bear in mind how old the game is, and its not too terrible a flaw for an otherwise fantastic game. The best part is considering your system is probably a 1.5 - 3.5 GHz, 2 Gb RAM setup, this game is so compact and streamlined it'll run smoother than your screensaver.
Overall: 9.5/10. I picked this back up after I stopped playing almost 6 years ago. A game with that kind of staying power is impressive. The history and involvement the game has is incredible, and while it'll get repetitive by the end, until you start to get sick of it, you'll be hopelessly addicted.
