I read that some of the other models have to import lists from the iPod when you first set it up. Reviewers of those models said this was a pain becasue it has to re-import when you add or change stuff or if you plug in a different iPod. Not so with this one - put any iPod in the dock and start controlling it with this remote.
My only complaint is that you have to choose the song you want to play using the remote once you plug it in. Not a big deal if you're just hitting shuffle, but since play stops when you dock the iPod (and that "ok to unplug" screen comes up) you have to select/reselect your song or playlist with the remote.
To sum it up - simple to use, excellent quality, works like it came with my iPod. Love it.
I purchased this mainly as a dock to connect my iPod to my home theater system; in this aspect this is an excellent product. My only complaint is the same one that is mentioned in other reviews: that you must purchase the correct remote model in order to be able to charge certain iPods. Unfortunately I did not read enough prior to purchasing and the dock will not charge my Nano 4th generation, but will charge my wife's Nano 3rd Generation- so it is not a big deal.
I am currently using it only for music and have not tried any of the video/picture features, it works seamlessly with the iPod when playing music. Being able to view your iPod screen on the remote and change music and volume while away from the system is an excellent feature and makes the product well worth the cost in my eyes. As for the complaint that it alphabetizes your playlists, this does not bother me as I generally shuffle my music anyway.
I view the universal remote function as fairly basic as it has not totally replaced all of my remotes; it does not work well for my cable box guide or DVR, but it does function well for power, volume, mute, etc. and I use it regularly. Set up was very simple once the I read the owner's manual found on the cd.
Overall I find that the Philips SJM3151 is a great iPod Dock, and the universal remote feature is convenient- but not a complete solution. It is well worth the cost.
