Reseña del editor
The Pink Ribbon Recovery Program is designed to facilitate recovery from breast cancer surgery. These surgeries include lumpectomy, mastectomy, and breast cancer reconstructive surgeries; including TRAM flap, LAT flap, and implant reconstruction. This program also reduces the risk of lymphedema. There are four phases to The Pink Ribbon Recovery Program. Each phase should be maintained for two weeks. The progression from one phase to the next will depend on how you are feeling. You can participate in these exercises two to three times per week. Once you have completed this program, you are now ready to join in many types of mainstream activities. Please be aware of any ongoing limitation you may have due to your surgeries. PHASE I can begin as soon as possible following surgery. Movement promotes blood flow which will increase oxygen supply. This helps to aid in the healing process. PHASE II focuses on improving trunk rotation and lateral flexion (side bending movement). Spine and core stability exercises are added in this phase and we continue with shoulder range of motion exercises. PHASE III adds more strengthening exercises for the core and we begin to incorporate lower body strength and stability exercises. Phase IV introduces the use of resistance to the workout. A Dynaband is used to strengthen the muscles of the back, shoulder, and trunk. Talk to your doctor or healthcare team member before starting this or any exercise program. The Pink Ribbon Recovery Program works in conjunction with your doctor's recommendations for an exercise program. You may also use this program in conjunction with, or as a follow-up to any prescribed physical therapy.
Biografía del autor
Doreen Puglisi, MS is a college professor and renowned international presenter. With a master's degree in Exercise Science, 24 years as a business owner, academic educator, and Pilates instructor, she provides a unique perspective on both theory and practice. Doreen transformed her professional-then personal-experience with cancer into a successful rehabilitation program for breast cancer survivors. In just six years, the nonprofit organization she founded, The Pink Ribbon Recovery Program, has trained and certified more than 1000 instructors internationally. The Pink Ribbon Recovery Program originated when Doreen began working with breast cancer survivors as an exercise physiologist and Pilates instructor. This recovery program was well underway when Doreen faced her own cancer diagnosis. She applied the Pink Ribbon protocol to her own recovery. Today the Pink Ribbon Recovery Program is a gentle, staged process that begins when the survivor is either six weeks past her surgery or has received her doctor's approval to begin gentle exercise. Some of Doreen's accomplishments: 2004 Founded The Pink Ribbon Program; 2007 invited to speak to the Tumor Board at Memorial Regional Cancer Center, South Bend, IN; 2008 invited to Australia to conducted a National Breast Cancer awareness campaign ; 2010 presented at Balanced Body, Pilates on Tour conference, 2010 presented at Nike World Headquarters, 2010 guest speaker for Sirius Radio's Doctor Radio talk show, 2010 guest speaker at Oregon Health and Science University Breast Health Task Force.

No matter, you CAN benefit today from this book.
Doreen Puglisi, M.S. is an exercise physiologist and educator who transformed her professional -- then personal -- experience with breast cancer into a successful rehabilitation program for survivors. She already had the professional experience as a teacher and physiologist when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Following her surgery she truly understood what a woman needed to do to fully recover the use of her arm.
The Pink Ribbon Program is the result. The material is clear, well illustrated and easy to follow. The pages are even laminated so the book itself can be tossed in your gym bag without damaging the pages (a simple, but really smart benefit). It is a gentle program guides a survivor in slow, gradual steps. Plus you can find additional info and a list of certified Pink Ribbon instructors at: [...].
If you or someone who care for has breast cancer surgery put this in her "survivor" toolkit.
Once you're feeling a bit more energy, it can be quite a shock to find your range of motion and strength greatly diminished after surgery. And this isn't something breast cancer survivors can just shake off with time, they need a realistic recovery program that delivers a body that works similarly to before surgery.
This is it. This gentle Pilates program is what millions of women need to regain their movement and step into a new life. The book is easy to follow, with large photos and simple instructions. The program is do-able whether your surgery was recent or years ago.
If you or someone you know has lost their range of motion due to breast cancer surgery, get this book today.
I have worked with people who have health challenges for over 15 years. I strongly believe in the healing power of exercise and the need to incorporate physical activity in a patient's treatment plan. It would be ideal for every physician to include the Pink Ribbon Program manual in each breast cancer patient's discharge packets before sending her home from the hospital!
