One of the best books I've ever read, an in depth look at my favorite character from my favorite series of books. Escape to another world Where the power of the will and the word are wielded by a Lady of honor and character. Polgara the Sorceress, Duchess of Erat, simple aunt Pol with the power to change the world and the wisdom to shape the children to rule their own world. A must read for all women of power and grace and the men that live in their light.Polgara the Sorceress

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas "Polgara the sorceress" is nothing less than a direct consequence of "Belgarath the sorcerer"... 17 de octubre de 2005

"Polgara the sorceress" is a book that can be liked by everybody that enjoys reading an engaging fantasy book, but will only be fully appreciated by those who have already read "The Belgariad", "The Malloreon" and "Belgarath the sorcerer" (yes, in that order).

The reason for that emphatic statement is simple: this book is the autobiography of Polgara, one of the main characters in those books. As such, "Polgara the sorceress" contains spoilers that could dim your enjoyment of the previously mentioned books. And believe me, "The Belgariad", "The Malloreon" and "Belgarath the sorcerer" are so wonderful that they fully deserve all the time that you need to read them first :)

"The Belgariad" and "The Malloreon" tell the story of a group of friends in a dangerous and magical quest, while "Belgarath the sorcerer" recounts the same story from the point of view of one of the main characters, who has the benefit of being almost immortal, thus having a thoroughly different perspective regarding the events that preceded that quest and everybody involved in it.

"Polgara the sorceress" is nothing less than a direct consequence of "Belgarath the sorcerer". Polgara is Belgarath's daughter, a sorceress and the guardian of the Rivan line. She didn't exactly agree with her father's version of what happened, and told her friends so. Despite that, Polgara wouldn't have gone so far as to write her own autobiography is Ce'Nedra (spurred by curiosity) hadn't plotted for her to do so.

Truth to be told, I specially enjoyed Polgara's take on what happened, and how she explained many things that Belgarath hadn't considered important. Also, I think that this book allows the readers to understand better Polgara's role in the preparation of the "Events", and how she became "Lady Polgara" and "Duchess of Erat".

In my opinion, this is a book that the fans of "The Belgariad" and "The Malloreon" will thoroughly enjoy. I always liked Polgara, and considered her to be a very likeable albeit perhaps overly mysterious character. I really enjoyed reading about her life, and I bet you will too. Recommended!

David Eddings has got to be one of my favorite authors. This entire series is amazing. Wish the next set of 5 was on Kindle.

The Belgeriad and Mallorean series are my favorite pieces of fantasy literature - I've read them a couple times, and they are always super enjoyable, and always force me to stay up late reading them because I can't stop, even though I know what's going to happen.
This book (and Belgarath) is a wonderful cap to the whole series, going all way back in time. Although much of it is a repeat of what was in the other books, this is wonderful reading since it is all from the perspective of Polgara, daughter of Belgarath, alive the last 5,000 years. Polgara offers many, many new insights to the events of the books. It's fascinating: construct a whole series with the omniscient narrator, and then write two more books going over the whole thing again, but from the point of views of two characters in the series. Surprisingly, it not only works, it works well, and it's quite compelling reading. And Eddings writes convincingly enough to make one think it really *is* Polgara who has written this.
Absolutely excellent reading, but of course, you really do have to read the first ten books first. And I can't recommend this series enough. Certainly the best multi-volume fantasy series that has come out (and yes, I am apostate by regarding this higher than Lord of the Rings, but so be it).

The book, Polgara the Sorceress, is a tale of a woman who experiences three thousand years of triumphs and heartbreaks. Who devoted herself to the continuation of her sister's line and the service of the God Aldur. Here in this book we see the legendary Polgara the Sorceress and the great figures of history. We see the parts of the story that Belgarath the Sorcerer left out and feel the years that Polgara experienced. Once again David and Leigh Eddings prove themselves the masters of the Character fantasy which draws you in and make you never want to put it down.
