The center speaker has always been the greatest frustration that I have with modern sound systems. They put so much effort into what goes into the side channels that they often neglect the center, which is where all the dialog is, and restricting the dialog to just one tiny speaker is a recipe for disappointment. The side speakers will be roaring with music and action sound effects, while the dialog is but a whisper.
I have a rather small space to put my speaker in the center of the cabinet. So, enter this speaker as a possible remedy for that. It appeared wide, but fit into my space, and it promises "Big Speaker Sound Without The Big Speaker". I checked the reviews and they appeared excellent.
BUT, I can only get good quality sound when I sit directly in front of it. We have 4 people. Two sit on a sofa about 10 feet back, and as you can guess one sits to the left and one to the right, both off-center from the speaker. Our 2 kids usually sit off to the side, and they're always asking us to turn it up (which makes the music and sound effects get much louder but the dialog just enough).
Having to sit directly in front of it to get any decent sound is completely impractical. This speaker (and center channel speakers in general) should curve or angle to spread sound in at least a 90 degree arc. I estimate this speaker puts out its best sound in at most a 20 degree arc, which doesn't get to both (or either, really) sides of our sofa.
I've tried adjusting the decibel level of the center channel higher than the other speakers, but then we encounter problems with shows that actually have stereo dialog in combination with center channel. In that case, the center sounds high, but the stereo speakers sound very quiet. One such example was Galavant. There was a lot of dialog and singing in all of the speakers, not just the center, and as I said, in that case, only the center sounded high, and everything else quiet. So, I have no solution but to keep searching
I can't recommend this, unless you're a loner with an easy chair directly in front.
Its lows are just ok my sub fills that void . It does provide excellent mids & highs resulting in crisp dialog excellent sound quality a major major step up from my older RM6-C.
With sub & Small - Mid size room this speaker is for you , It looks sharp & provides excellent sound you cant go wrong.

I love "The Dark Knight" on blu-ray but always hated its Audio track until yesterday.
With TL2 the sound came alive with clear dialog crisp sound totally amazing.
Thank you Polk!
The receiver is a Yamaha RX-V481_V481D. I noticed a few bad reviews and wanted to say that the sound quality depends alot on the receiver you are using to drive the speakers and the speaker adjustment and settings. This Center Channel was a quick swap with no adjustment and I am blown away by the sound!!!!
Don't hesitate if you are sick of week sounding center channel sound, especially if you had to place your center channel speaker behind the tv monitor and settle for whatever sound gets through.
- excellent sound
- economically priced
- attractive, understated appearance
- I haven't found any yet
With only the center Polk Audio TL2 speaker, they called me and said it was great. They could hear dialog they they had been unable to hear for a long time. They even went back to some of their DVR recorded shows and watched them again to hear the complete dialog. After hearing this speaker for myself I was very impressed, especially for the price. I am very hard of hearing and could even hear most of the dialog with the Polk center speaker only. I definitely recommend this speaker.
