I've been cycling through different hair products (mainly pomades) for a while now. Recently I've tried products like American Crew Pomade and their Forming Cream, Suavecito, and Uppercut. All those products were decent and have their merits, but Layrite is by far the best I have used and it will be the only thing I use moving forward.

I have very thick hair that I like to slick back and to the side. My main problem in hair products is that the thickness of my hair makes it heavy and so it tends to fall out of place when I use pomade and slick it back. In looking for a stronger hold I first tried out Layrite's Super Hold (the one with a brown label). The hold was exactly what'd I been looking for but it also made some of the shorter hair on the side and back of my head stand out a little because it wasn't as flexible. To fix this I picked up a can of the Original Layrite.

Layrite's hold is awesome. Stronger, in my experience, than American Crew, Suavecito, and Uppercut. I personally feel the shine is perfect in that it isn't really that shiny. My hair is a lighter brown so extreme shine doesn't look great on it. Definitely less shiny than Crew and Suavecito. Smell is fine but not strong which is again something I prefer.

Like I said, my hair is extremely thick and I have two cowlicks that have always been huge pains. I have found that using Layrite Original to first style my hair and then supplementing that with Layrite Super Hold on the stubborn hairs around my cowlicks has created the prefect combo for my hair. For months I have been tinkering with different products and lengths to try and get the slick to look right and hold throughout the day. I was starting to feel like it was impossible with my hair but with Layrite I have finally been able to get my hair exactly how I like it.

I HIGHLY recommend Layrite pomade and if you have some annoying hairs that you can't seem to keep under control then look into Layrite's Super Hold

So when I bought this, originally I was excited because it was such a different pomade than other common brands like American crew or imperial, etc. It was light, smelled so beautifully of vanilla, was translucent, and has a really cool texture (like jello sort of but not exactly). Anyway, I used it to style a undercut slick back and originally I was disappointed because it would come out sort of hard and crunchy and very solid. I felt as if I even messed it up a little bit, it would be game over for the day (until I was able to come it and fix it). But after messing around with it for two days, I found out how to use this product for a slicked back undercut. I have thick Mexican hair and I have a lot of it, and it usually pretty dry and soft when I wash it. I read on layrite website that it works best when applied to dry hair. This isn't really possible with thick hair because you can't fully blend the product into dry thick hair evenly. So instead, I washed it and towel dried it so that it still was damp but not dripping at all. And then I worked in a finger full of product and obviously it was a lot more easier to work it. Then after it was incorporated, I come it back into my slick back. Here is where it's crucial if you want to achieve a slightly shiny, soft and not greasy, light, and re-styleable look. You need to blow dry it! If you don't blow-dry it, it won't look like the magazines or like celebrities in movies. And yes I know, it's annoying to have to blow dry it, but it's really worth it becsuse it makes your hair just so much more durable and just looks soo good. So know I'm really happy with layrite and happy I found a way to use this product. And I be looking hella fresh when Im at school lmao 😋😋

I love this pomade! I've used various wet gels (i.e. gels were you must dampen your hair before working in the gel) over the past 15+ years and I've had problems finding a product that is consistently good. When Tressemme used to make a good gel it was not strong, and then I started using Aussie which was ok but was a bit heavy still so my wife wasn't a fan of it. This stuff is great though - it lasts all day, it doesn't make my hair look like it's super stiff, and it forms a perfect semi-strong hold. So it lasts all day, but it's not very rigid to the touch.

By the way, I have fairly thick hair. It grows quickly (I have to cut my hair every 5 weeks down to finger length and it grows to a few inches in that time frame) and is curly. For this pomade to work in my hair and not your hair would mean that your hair is ridiculously thick.

Bonus: it smells really good! I first had it on me because my barber uses it and my wife immediately noticed it when I got home. I haven't had anyone tell me they didn't like - it's not a super strong smell unless someone's nose is near your hair. But the fact that it smells like vanilla instead of the chemical-y smell of most gels is a huge step up.

I have been using layrite for years now. I have yet to find any other water soluble pomade that can compete with layrite. First off the smell of this stuff is amazing, and it doesn't go away. I am always getting compliments on how I smell, and it is from this pomade. It does not matter how much or how little of this stuff that you use, it will hold! I have used this for many years to sport a pompadour, a Mohawk, and for a quick slick back. Just rub it in, comb it out and shape with your hand and you are all set. This stuff holds up so well you may not even have to comb your hair the following morning. You can reshape this after application, but I've found you have to warm it back up again with your hands first. Once it sets again, it will stay, but not be as stiff as it was before. Overall, this is a great product. I'm sorry to see the price going up. But you definitely get what you pay for with layrite.
