Fantastic, gym-grade machine with true elliptical movement. The unit is very heavy and stable, even sitting on a carpet floor. Movement is smooth and feels very natural, and the resistance settings are noticeably different. The manually-adjustable incline ramp is surprisingly easy to adjust, and clicks into place very assuredly.
Price wise, it is definitely expensive, but almost every other cheaper unit I tried felt cheaply made, and none seemed to match the elliptical movement that I was used to at the gym, offering what felt more like a standing-up exercise bike. This Precor 221 is a pleasure to use, and is just like the Precor units at the gym (except without the last person's sweat on it). Even though it was more money, it was worth it to me to make sure I got something that my wife and I would enjoy, and would not just take up space in our home unused. At this price point it is currently the cheapest Precor model, but it has no sacrifices other than the manual ramp. This model does not offer quite as many resistance levels as the higher-end Precor models, but you won't notice that they're missing. The next stationary-handlebar in the Precor lineup is presently double the cost, and at half the price, the 221 is a surprising value.
Setup took me about half an hour, moving slowly, unpacking the unit, etc. I want to say there were 18 screws in total. The models with moving handlebars probably take a little longer to assemble. A second person would definitely help, if only to move it into position. Most of your time will be spent cleaning up the box and packaging.
The only problem I have had so far is that the heart-rate monitor will often give a false (very low) reading. This usually goes away turning the machine off, and then back on, but in the middle of a workout it is a little irritating. I will give it more time to see if it goes away, or I will contact Precor to troubleshoot.
