5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Heavy, Great Built Quality, and Nice Finish 3 de marzo de 2016

First things first: yes! It is expensive, but so is everything else vinyl. The good thing is that it actually works, and it eliminated all the pops that I was hearing with my brand new records. It's quite heavy and very well made with a nice matt finish. The wooden box is nicely done with Pro-Ject logo embossed on the top and red velvet carpeted inside. The locking system on the one that I received is completely different from the product picture above. Mine doesn't have the latches and actually has a more sophisticated magnets on the lids. Overall, this is a nice record puck and a nice addition for your listening rituals. Now, you'll have one more thing to do before moving the arm and dropping the needle on the record.

3.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Well-made, attractive puck, comes in a lovely box, but what does it do? 26 de febrero de 2016

The puck is well-made and attractive, and it comes in a lovely and nicely crafted box. It's heavy (1 pound and 12 ounces), but it's absolutely no problem for my turntable - the weight rests downward, and the turntable isn't trying to lift the platter upward, it's trying to turn the platter round a horizontal plane, so the weight of the puck really isn't an issue.

So far, so good.

But does it do anything useful?

People claim the puck makes records sound better, makes bass deeper or better-defined, widens the soundstage. If it did any of those things, even if there's a chance it improved the sound quality a little, spending $80 for the puck would be a no-brainer, right?

That was why I bought one. I've had it for a few weeks, listened to many records with and without the puck. Guess what? Doesn't make a bit of difference in sound quality. Those claims that sounded too good to be true, were not true in my experience.

What about warped records? In my experience, slightly warped records aren't a problem, whether I'm using this puck or not. Heavily warped records indeed sound wobbly, and this puck doesn't help them sound better.

So, what is the puck good for? I don't know, and I regret the purchase.

Lots of people say this makes a difference and is worth the price. I believe that they are telling the truth. What might explain why the puck works for some people but not others?

I'm not sure, but here's one possibility. My turntable came with a heavy acrylic platter. Some turntables have platters made of lighter materials. It might be that pucks make more difference on lighter platters, which without a puck might conduct more ambient vibration to the tone-arm. (Sorry, I'm sure "ambient vibration" isn't the right word. What I mean is vibration in the room that's so subtle most humans don't notice it, but is enough to affect the very sensitive tone arm on most turntables.)

Another possibility is that some people, whether they have a heavy platter or not, might live in an environment with more ambient vibration, and for them, using the puck helps prevent the turntable from conducting the vibration to the tone arm.

2.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Don't believe the hype 24 de julio de 2016

I recently have upgraded my set up and since then I have been obsessed with producing the best sound possible I can with my gear and budget. I have been buying all the gadgets that can increase fidelity and sound dynamics.

I bought Pro-jects acrylic plate first for my Pro-ject Debut Carbon. I was seriously impressed with the immediate improvement. The music was much more clear and balanced. It sounded warmer too, which is a plus for me.

Then I bought the vibrapod feet isolators. They absorb a ton of vibrations from the table and counteract some of the torque from the motor; I can visibly tell because my anti-skate weight moves a lot less. In effect, they balance out the highs and lows and increase sound quality.

I also bought Sanus speaker stands to increase the physical width of speaker position and isolate the speakers from the surface they touch. Instant increase in stereo sound and personal gratification.

Then I bought this puck. I was super excited because of the reviews. People claimed to hear instant improvement in high and low differential. Some people also claimed it helped clarify the bass notes. Many people explained how it flattens the record, which helps stabilize the needle in the middle of the groove. Others wrote that the extra mass helps dampen the record, which decreases vibrations and hence clearer sound. Some even said it helped with static pops.

Whether or not these claims are valid, they make no audible difference in sound clarity, balance, isolation, static, depth or tone. I tried my hardest to hear any difference at all. I played over 10 records, of different mass; all while meticulously removing and replacing the puck. I made sure to play my favorite songs, so in the chance there was any difference I'd be able to pick up on it. But no, nothing was different.

It's possible that it would help with bent or warped records but I don't have any so I couldn't test it. If your goal is to salvage some warped records, this puck might be beneficial, but if you want to increase sound quality of regular records then I suggest the acrylic plate for a moderate price, or better yet a new cartridge or speakers if you can invest in quality stuff.

Last thing, I love my Pro-ject Debut Carbon but this is the second product I have bought that didn't work as marketed. I bought the upgraded RCA's with the ground wire and they actually made the sound worse. The sound was very flat. That and they're overpriced. So don't buy everything Pro-ject.
4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas So this is nice but pricey. 4 de abril de 2017

So this is nice but pricey. So I played a few lp's with this...worth it? Yes. Did it add some bass...yes. Did it help playing warped albums...slightly. I guess it depends on what your playing through. I am playing on a Project Carbon Ortofon red, Marantz SR-7011 phono stage with Kilpsch Heresy III speakers. Worth it for me. I mean if you are going to buy a puck, others most likely do the same thing as this and cheaper. Does it come as well built as this with a nice box for storage? Probably not. I dropped a star due to price.

Reluctant to buy this due to price, but you get what you pay for. Nice and heavy, well balanced and the box is superb. Excellent product with a fair price.
