Not illustrated. 1837 Excerpt: ...or any branch or part thereof, within the city of New York, unless he is licensed for that purpose, by or under the authority of the Common Council of said city, under the penalty of Fifty Dollars: which was referred to the Law Committee. Resolution by Mr. Van Wyck, viz: That the Comptroller be requested to report to this Board, the amount of money paid into the City Treasury by the butchers, for the purchase and hire of stalls, and also the amount of fees collected for the past year. Adopted. Resolution by Mr. Whiting, viz: That it be referred to the Market Committee, to ascertain and report to this Board whether the present high rates of ferriage does not materially enhance the price of all kinds of pro duce brought to market from Long Island, and whether the repeal of the law against forestalling and the law to prevent persons from bringing produce not raised on their own farms to market, would not be beneficial to the interest of the citizens, and whether any and what squares may be set apart for countrymen to stand at. Adopted. Petition of James O'Brien to have a fine remitted. Referred to Finance Committee. The Market Committee, to whom was referred the petition of sundry inhabitants of the 9th Ward, for a Market on the 6th Avenue, at its intersection with Greenwich Lane, Report: That in their opinion that section of the city requires the erection of a market. Your Committee would further observe that they have had an interview with the executors of the property contemplated to be taken for the site of the market, and find that said executors cannot legally dispose of the same; but that they are willing said ground should be taken by legal process: and would therefore oner the following resolution, viz: That the above subject be referred to the Commit...
