Secondly, many pages are missing in this copy. The book begins on page 7. The text should start on page 5 with a title page and an illustration also missing. Within the book other pages are missing: 8-11, 15, 20-24, 29-31, 33-34, 37-43, 45, 47-48, 50, 52-56, 58-60, 63-67, 70, 72-76, 78-80, 83-84, 86, 88-91, 93-96, 98-100, 102, 106,109-117, 120-121, 123-124, 126, 128-130, 132-133. This renders the book completely unreadable!
A second copy with the same bizarre photo of gears and titled "The Troubles of Queen Silver-Bell: As Told By Queen Crosspatch..." is available. I bought it as well, thinking it was a different Frances Hodgson Burnett book in this series due to the difference in the title. It is the same book, with most of the pages this time, but still about a dozen missing.
My advice -- buy a used copy if you are interested in the first, second, fourth or fifth story in this fairy series. The third story in this series, The Racketty-Packetty House, has been released in a special 100th Anniversary edition that is a nice hard cover with delightful illustrations and only a couple typos in the text.
i read all there was, but it was missing so many pages i could make no sense of the story. very disappointing. molly.
