Adevertencia:

Here, everything works together to produce a close-to-perfect performance ()Tenor Yann Beuron is at his boyishly charming best as a glittering, silver-suited, rock-star Mercury. Soprano Mireille Delunsch does a superb vocal and comic star turn as La Folie, a prima diva wearing a ball gown of sheet music. And tenor Paul Agnew, in a fishnet body stocking and a pink flower-petal tutu, is absolutely sensational as the ever-hopeful, undaunted green queen of the frogs. --Wall Street Journal Europe

Laurent Pellys staging of Platée is an exhilarating display of gags and West Side Story dance routines mixed in with satirical rap...Marc Minkowski conducting the excellent Musiciens du Louvre-Grenoble was the instigator of a sparkling orchestral fête. --(Opera Now)

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Rameau = Musical Joy! 26 de noviembre de 2008

While I am not generally enthusiastic about "moderne" updates of baroque
works, there's something about Rameau that really lends itself to contemporary re-thinking; maybe it's the sheer sense of JOY and humanity
of the music that makes it work.

This production of Platee is marvelous--- the conducting, playing and
(most of the) singing are first-rate. And, most important to this type of production, the cast is made up of first-rate singing ACTORS, whose fresh and vibrant personalities are immensely appealing. I found myself watching
with an ear-to-ear smile throughout most every scene, so enchanting are the characterizations of everyone on stage.(The Act 1 scenes with Platee, Mercury and Kithaeron are a total delight).

The direction and choreography are, with a few exceptions, amazingly inventive. (You want brake-dancing frogs?...you GOT 'em!) Even the little cross-over in Act 3 with the man/dog on the leash to Rameau's sublime musette has a mystique and magic of its own.

The spirit of Rameau's music is contagious...especially when brought to life with such brilliance.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas An enjoyable work, a mediocre dvd 22 de septiembre de 2009

I enjoyed this opera. It was nothing like I had expected and it was also clear that the performers enjoyed putting on this performance. The ballet was particularly enjoyable. The costumes and the sets worked for me.

I have to agree with other reviewers who panned the Kultur dvd. I've other recordings from Kultur that seem much better, but this was just too dark. The lack of subtitles in any other language seems very strange too. As for no text of any sort (this has happened before with Kultur dvd's), that I easily solved with a printout from Wikipedia but I don't see why I should have had to do that.

I will seriously take the matter of brand labels into consideration in the future. Hopefully the firm takes constructive criticism seriously and they will remedy the shortfalls of this dvd in the future.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas A lot of fun 17 de febrero de 2008

One doesn't expect 18th century French Opera to be so much darn fun! This is one of those clever productions where most of the money got spent on costumes and the barest minimum of sets so the director's talents and abilities are on full display bringing us a witty, inventive, surprising and always delightful show that embraces the music with superb musicianship and visual joy. Everyone in the cast is apparently having the time of their lives and their own enjoyment in the proceedings is infectious. It's easy to fall in love with Rameau's music. The quality of writing is a sheer joy for this delightful divertisement. Captures both the witty sophistication of it's time and shows us how it's done in our own. This opens a whole new world of art to explore. Bon Voyage!

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Rameau's Platée - melodic, entertaining and great fun 4 de enero de 2008
Por Bulat R. Betalgiry - Publicado en Amazon.com

This distinctly French-styled and vibrant production of Rameau's comic opera 'Platée' is one of the more memorable performances I have seen in a long while. The singers are quite excellent, with the leads Paul Agnew as Platée and Mireille Delunsch as La Folie both just outstanding. Mr Agnew displayed a fine talent for stage acting which was so much fun to watch (look out for his humorously naive facial expressions and body language during the entree aria in Act 1) and Mme Delunsch almost literally stole the show (or rather a baton, perhaps) from the brilliant conductor Marc Minkowski during her spectacular entree aria; her acting was also remarkable. I cannot recall ever seeing such an amazing, almost palpable, rapport between singers and orchestra - it's apparent that all involved have so much enjoyed being part of this memorable production. The plot is largely secondary to the pleasant melodies and fine vocal performances, after all this is not a corrosive drama but a comic opera. The playing of Les Musiciens de Louvre under the baton of Maestro Minkowski was nothing short of magnificent, a joy to listen to from start to finish. All in all, this is a wonderfully entertaining performance of an early baroque opera.

The U.S. release Kultur DVD transfer seemed quite dark and grainy at times and the scant packaging was also disappointing. The European release 2-DVD edition by TDK should score better on both video quality and overall presentation.
