There are lots of little satisfactions in doing it, though. There are little areas that are impressionistic in style, and several regions of the puzzle that work as mini-puzzles. The colors do remind us of Paris.
The theme is a little monotonous after awhile and I can see how some people throw up their hands. There were moments when we wanted to throw the whole puzzle on the floor. BUT, that's why we do puzzles! This one is a roller coaster of tedium and frustration contrasted with areas that go quickly and surely and have us high fiving each other. So, that's fun.
I read some of the reviews for this puzzle, the good and the not so good, and decided to go ahead, take the plunge and buy it. I'm not sorry I did. The puzzle has a lot of muted tones, because it's that time of day when the sun is setting and everything starts to turn grey. So you have basically two colors in this, shades of orange and blue. I know this bothered a few people, but I thought it was lovely, and I was tempted from the reviews to accept the challenge of this puzzle. It definitely was a challenge, but not something that took the fun away from putting it together. Besides, I have a very, very white overhead light where I work on my puzzles, so that could have made a difference for me. If the light had been dimmer, I probably would have had more trouble distinguishing some of the more muted and dark colors. Nevertheless, it still would have been fun to do.
To me, this is a beautiful puzzle, and the picture I saw on my computer screen is the picture I got when I finished putting this together. It's a gorgeous painting of Paris that is both fun and challenging to do, with that Ravensburger quality.
The colors mix and blend across multiple pieces in ways that drive you crazy....and most colors go in at least 5 areas. Here and there a piece looks totally unlike anything where it eventually goes--yet it blends in perfectly when in its place. It feels extremely well thought out and planned. You'll need a good overhead light, as subtle changes in colors are deceiving.
Deceiving--yet never felt like the puzzle makers 'cheated.' Fun.
