It comes with two bags. Before you start one bag, see the pieces carefully and try to match with picture. You will know what part of the pieces you are going to start first.
The whole size of it is about 75inch * 55inch ( 190 cm * 140cm ). It is huge puzzle. I put them on the form board and ordered the frame for it. The frame costs $300. It looks elegant on a frame. See a picture that I have uploaded.
Finished my own copy 2 weeks ago, took me a whole month to finish it all by myself. There was no missing or wrong pieces, the interlock between pieces is perfect and the picture is beautiful.
The most difficult part is the purple and black areas at the surrounding(took 70% overall time, for me). It's really tiring and boring to try each piece for every space, and distinguishing color is very . So I suggest completing this puzzle without mixing if you are not patient enough. However the rest parts are quite easy.
Two small problems: The first one is the packing. In both bags some pieces were not seperated completely and are still connected by a layer of paper at the bottom, it always caused trouble when sorting, and even the risk of ripping pieces up; And the bags are filled not only by pieces but also certain amount of blue powder(from the cardboard when cutting), it can make a mess if you directly pour a bag of pieces onto the ground with window opened. I had to prepare water and towel when doing primary sorting-_-.
The other problem, the interlock between the two halves was not as perfect as it was in other areas. When combining the two halves I had to force the pieces to link, and the picture was slightly distorted in the middle.
But overall, this puzzle is great in quality and I had great fun when working on it. I Recommend it!
The box it comes in is high quality, the pictures don't do the puzzle justice, and the pieces are fairly high quality. It's a jigsaw puzzle, there's not a ton of bonus features here :P
There's a couple negatives that should be mentioned though. For one, you have to keep in mind, this thing is HUGE. That's a total given and not the downside of this, but it leads into the problem: The purple space on either ends of the puzzle is consequently a huge. This leaves there being about 300-400 pieces of just plain purple on either side, and how ravensburger cuts their puzzles, this means there's only about 8 variations of piece shape. So you'll have that to contend with. The sky itself took as long as the rest of the puzzle did combined.
However, if you decide to tackle this bad boy, congrats: It's a beautiful picture. Here's a few tips:
-DON'T start with the edge pieces. It's effective for smaller puzzles, but that won't work in this case. The edges look a lot a like in some places, and will occasionally interlock where they don't need to. It was easier for me to do the edges near the end.
-DO get some music or books on tape. I'm listening to "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. I wouldn't have been able to without.
-DON'T get overwhelmed. It's a huge puzzle, but easily tackle-able in chunks.
-DO the Aeries-Vergo side first. It's the easier half, trust me. The other side has parts that look alike in unfortunate ways: The Libra and Capricorn have skies that look almost the same, and the Scorpio and Aquarius space look a lot like the purple bits. It's tough.
You'll also need the following things:
-10 or so clear, plastic cups
-Super glue (Like hobby glue)
You'll need the cups to separate the pieces into their individual sides. Clear plastic cups lets you see what you're doing, and make handy containment trays.
The superglue and exacto knife you'll need for when you put the wrong piece in a tight spot. When you pull it apart, sometimes the picture comes off, and you'll want to glue it back onto the piece before continuing. The exacto knife will let you pick them apart a little more carefully.
I did run into a problem. This puzzle comes in two bags, each with half the puzzle. I did one half, and when I went to open the bag to start the other half, I discovered it was another copy of the same half! Obviously a defect in the one I got. But I contacted Ravensburger and they replaced the puzzle pronto. So, I am a happy customer.
