5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Exceeded my expectations 30 de mayo de 2015

I admit, I've been buying, almost exclusively, Wayfarer and Clubmaster knock-off sunglasses for over 30 years. I've always liked the styles, but $5-$40 a pop buys a wide variety of quality, not necessarily dependent on their cost, and they are seldom good for more than a couple seasons regardless of price.

A little while back I finally bought a pair of authentic Clubmaster eyeglass frames (yes my eyes are getting old, imagine that) and have been very pleased with the classic Clubmaster styling (small alterations of the cut on some knock-offs can make a large difference in appearance), as well as the exceptional quality of the frames (compared to the knock-offs, at least, some of which only lasted a couple weeks at best before lenses or arms were falling off; always disappointing).

I found myself in need of a pair of sunglasses and decided it was time to splurge for some authentic Wayfarers. I was reluctant ordering online regarding exactly which style and size of wayfarer would best suit my face. I came down on the original Wayfarer style, as I tend to favor the original classic look, and I got lucky, as these (50-22) were the perfect fit for me.

My ultimate appreciation though was regarding the quality of the frames. They are heavy and solid and obviously built to endure. I'd also bought a second hundred dollar pair of glasses in a similar style from another popular maker at the same time to decide which style I liked better and best suited me -- and though I really like the style (as much as, though not more than the Wayfarers) they are much lighter. Some people may like the lighter frames, but they just do not feel as substantial to me -- being more reminiscent of the feel of the knock-offs I'd always considered temporary throw-away glasses.

Ultimately, I will say that I am pleased enough with this purchase that I've actually taken the time to put it into writing.

As always the Amazon shopping experience, the item being very well packaged, the knowledge of free returns if necessary, and the prompt two-day Prime shipping were also much appreciated.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Timeless Design, Can't Go Wrong! 15 de junio de 2016

I have always wanted a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses. I was skeptical about buying these online and sight unseen, but went for it given my great experiences with Amazon and Amazon Prime. I do not regret my choice for a minute. These are such a classic style, truly timeless. They fit my face and head very well. They came well protected, wrapped in plastic, inside their case, packed in a box, safe and sound. I have never used polarized lenses before and I see the difference when I switch back to my old pair. I have a long commute in to the sunrise and back home towards the sunset. These are very comfortable for my eyes and help to minimize glare. I love the tortoise shell color, especially with my brown hair. I can't wait to get my husband a pair with prescription lenses and even another pair for myself in a second color!

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Buy the Ray Bans they are worth it, you want it, let loose of that penny you're starting to squeak when you walk! 7 de febrero de 2016

My largest concern was if these are the real deal, not knockoffs as so many are.
I did my research to know what to look for in both what areal pair would have, and what a knock off would.
I am glad I did.
My pair came with everything the pros said it should, and none of the things it shouldn't.
I received everything pictured above.
The sunglasses are flawless, brand new, and show the craftsmanship of the hand made work of the Italians.
Mine are polarized, and have all the correct markings, and I have been wearing them for a few days in the bright sun.
I spend way too much time working on my laptop and have headaches from this however, my headaches are much less since
I no longer have my eyes further scalded traveling, I can feel my relax when I am wearing them.
Am I happy with my purchase, in a word Yes.
They fit my face as described, arrived on time, a very good purchase for this quality of a design.
My last pair I had back in the day I wore for some 15 years before a hinge came apart, and now I know I could have repaired that.
If you buy an expensive tool vs a cheap one you will find you will keep track of them as you become attached.

1.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Frames Direct Sold me a pair of display samples, returns or other glasses that should be considered used and not new. 27 de junio de 2015

Item was marked as new. When it arrived not only was the box beat up (semi expected), the item damaged (there is a chip in the front of the frame) but these were CLEARLY a pair of "off the floor" samples, covered in fingerprints, skin cells all over the ear pieces, makeup smudges and other gross human detritus all over the hinges, and smears all over the back of the lenses, clearly seen in the anti-glare coating. Basically, despite the packaging itself being "new" in that the wipe cloth and additional accessories were unopened, the glasses themselves for all intentness and purposes are quite used. And pretty gross. And not even that much cheaper than the ones offered by Ray-Ban.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Great Look! Style/Size/Model Explanation 10 de marzo de 2010

The first time I ordered these I was confused about the numbers and sizing of the glasses, and got it wrong. Here's how it works:

The glasses come with either a 50mm or 54mm lens diameter. I can't say whether they're just wider or are also taller, as I haven't tried both sizes.

They also come with a choice between two different distances between the lenses: 18mm & 22mm. I guess if your head is large, you'll probably want the 22mm option.

Model Number Explanation, as far as I can figure. Haven't quite got it down, but this should be close:
The set I own now: 902/57-5022
The first set of numbers is the color/style, ie: Tortoise frame = 902. The number after the slash seems to correlate with lens type, ie: Crystal Brown Polarized = 57. Therefore, 902/57 style is a Tortoise frame with Crystal Brown Polarized lens.
The second set of numbers is a little easier. The first two numbers are the lens diameter and the last two is the distance between the lenses, ie: 5022 = 50mm lens with 22mm between the lenses.

FYI: This style, 2140, is the "Original Wayfarer" style. Others include the 2132 (New Wayfarer), 2151 (Square Wayfarer), 2143 (Wayfarer II), 4105 (Folding Wayfarer), and the 9035 (Junior Wayfarer for kids).

I hope this helps!

The glasses do fog up easily, at least on my face. I believe it's because they are closer to my face than regular sunglasses. For that, and the lack of easy explanation of the styles and sizes, I subtracted a star, but I love the way these glasses look and wouldn't part with them for anything!

<edit> The New Wayfarers (2132) differ in that the lens is more shallow, so if your cheeks hit the classic Wayfarers, they probably won't with the new style. Also, the New Wayfarers have slightly thinner & lighter plastic frames. I prefer the New Wayfarers myself, but they don't make the frame/lens combination I like (Tortoise/Brown Polarized) in that model.

<edit 2> See Amazon Blonde's comments below for a correction and clarification to the explanation above.

Also, if you like the style, but not the way the Ray Bans are constructed, Maui Jim makes a more subdued, but better-made frame with the model number MJ242, sold at Sunglass Hut. They fit me better and have spring-loaded bows, which is nice. Also, they have rubber built-in to the nose, but invisible. They also don't hit my eyelashes like the Ray Bans do.

<edit 3> I've noticed several reviews stating that some sellers are shipping counterfeit sunglasses. I ordered mine from Sunglasses Botique via Amazon, and they are not fake, as far as I can tell! They have "Made in Italy" stamped on the side, the lenses are polarized and of high quality, and they feel exactly like my other New Wayfarer sunglasses. They also have "Ray Ban" in raised script on the outside of each arm. The pictures perfectly matched the sunglasses, down to the codes.
